Welcome to the great world of h2g2! Nice intro, btw. I'm a real person, part of the official ACEs volunteer group. We go around welcoming people, and are here to help you settle in. If you have any questions, just ask me. If I'm not around, I'm sure someone else will answer on my behalf, but I'm generally around every couple of days or so.
The key to h2g2 is that you only really get from the Community as much as you give to it. Fortunately, contributing requires neither wealth nor a vast amount of time. May I draw your attention to your toolbar, which is by default above this message. The first two buttons simply enable you to visit the front page, with the latest Entries and talking points detailed, and to return to your Personal Space. The next three are really important - they're in-depth link pages for the three main activities at h2g2 - reading the Guide, Talking with the Community, and Contributing to the Guide.
The next two buttons take you to the Help FAQs, and to the site feedback area. The last three buttons give access to an automatic popup list of other users online now, to your preferences where you can alter your settings, email and skin preferences, and so on. Finally, the logout button signs you off from h2g2, and this should be the last button you press before leaving by routine.
There's just one more thing to tell you now, and that's that you need to visit http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/Smiley to get kitted out with a list of lovely smileys to use in posts, such as , and over 100 more!
I look forward to seeing what you'll do with h2g2. It's a land of opportunity, and it's addictive, but in a nice way.
