Well I never!

Hello there!
I came to your page to say how good it was to meet you yesterday and I find a qhote from the "Fish out of Time" book. However I think you have included it more because of the fact that it is East London (but not the rainy one). One day I will actually write a Guide entry on the coelacanth. I think I've been promising to for about 2 years!
Well I never!

Hiya,
Nice to meet you too. What was the evening part of th meet like? I found the afternoon pleasant enough, but a bit difficult to have many converations with that big circle of people sat facing inwards. I'm going back tomorrow to play bar billiards with Frankie.
Anyway, yes, I read the whole Coelacanth book, not just the first line. It was a good read.
What made you choose the name? Your friend seemed to think you may have taken offence when I replied "ah, the living fossil" . I hope not.
Thanks for dropping by. I may even start looking in from school from time to time now we have the broadband connection up.
Well I never!

Which friend? The lady to my right, also next to you, was Jedi Apprentice and I've never met her before! The lady to my left was Galaxy Babe and I've met her at a couple of official meets. She knows I would never be offended by something like that. Much amused more like!
I chose the name when I joind h2g2 almost 3 years ago. I was about to turn 40 and had just made a new start in my life by going online. I loved the idea of adopting the name of a fish that people had forgotten about. A while back I asked for a name analysis in a thread somewhere here and I liked what was said so much that I made sure I wouldn't lose it. A578216
So, no, of course I didn't take offence! It's exactly how I would describe myself online.
I'm glad you read the book. There was a TV programme linked to it too. Did you see that? I pop into the Natural History Museum when I can, to say hello to the old fish. I remember seeing it as a child. I also know the person who helped display it in the tank.
>I may even start looking in from school...
Are you a teacher? I am.
Well I never!

Hi there, back to work today.....
Memory is fading but I think there was somebody else sitting between you and Galaxybabe.
No I didn't see the tv prog about coelacanths, but somehow I'd always been aware of the story that they were thought to be extinct and then it turned out that fishermen sometimes caught them from deep waters.
It's a magical story, which makes me wonder if some day a herd of wooly mammoths might just come trundling out of the Forest of Dean or something like that .
I haven't been to the Nat Hist museum since Frankie Roberto was knee high ( I put that in to embarras him, he's bound to read this at some time - Hi Frank but now that the museums are all free again, I'll have to catch up sometime. How long ago was the fish first displayed there?
I'm not a teacher but I do teach a little bit .... It's a new job and I'm enjoying it, I look after the IT suite in a school in South London, hence the day off yesterday when the teachers were on strike. So do you teach a subject or a class ?
I wonder how you ask for a name analysis.
Key: Complain about this post
Well I never!
