New houses!

I've found myself a place to live. I can't believe I'm actually contenplating living in Leeds City Centre, but as I'm hoping to go and sign the paperwork off this lumchtime I guess I'd better get over it!

It's not a big place, but it's just behind the Corn Exchange on The Calls. I like it for several reasons;
first, it's a brand new build (and by brand new, I mean that they're still putting down the carpet!),
second, there's only twelve flats in the block, and
third, the rent is only £425 per month. Given that I can barely find a flat for that price outside of city I think I've got to grab it with both hands! Apparently it's a government subsidised project, and you're not allowed to earn more than 25k, which is what has kept the price down.

The only other places I have seen at that price are either so small I feel claustrophobic, or really shabby. This is brand new and has a washing machine and everything!

Although I can't move in this weekend because the flats probably won't be ready, I think I should be in by Christmas, which is when I wanted to be gone, or at least mostly gone. Thankfully as Richard isn't moving out of the house, the time pressure isn't so urgent. I don't think he's coming back to Leeds until New Year.

So. Exciting times, if for a sad reason.

Indeed! :D

Not that many people turned out for the last meet though. smiley - sadface Perhaps it was the joint-with ZZ9 idea that made people less enthusiastic.

Near the corn exchange? Should be handy for busses

It's handy for pretty much everything! The only thing that's bad is that I'll have to go shopping at the large Morrison's in town, which is an evil place. Still, it's only ten minutes walk away and I can make it on the way home from work if I want to.
There's also going to be a Sainsbury's opening up even closer in a few months, although I don't know what size it'll be.

Eeee! It's all getting exciting! I both looking forward to it and dreading it; I know that when I move out of the house the shock of what's happened will finally hit me. Ah well. Only one way to find out, eh?

And corn, and jungle 12" from '94 and tie-dye shirts with big ganja leaves printed on them, and little crappy silver things for putting candles in and, ooh, candles. smiley - erm I haven't been there in ages.

smiley - bigeyesThere used to be a a music equiptment shop in th Corn Exchange, is it still there?

That's a cool place to live

The Corn Exchange is a great place, but unfortunately all the shops are being turfed out. The leaseholders have decided that they want to redevelop it into a gigantic food court, which is possibly one of the worst ideas I've ever heard. Despite petitions, both online and paper based, it's still going ahead. smiley - grr

Admittedly, I never really shop there as I don't need most of what is sold, but it was still a wonderful place. And Leeds already has so many restaurants it doesn't need any more!

What was the bookshop in there? Was it Forbidden Planet?

No, Forbidden Planet is out down the back of the market, off of The Headrow. There was The Travelling Man, but they've already left, although they've not gone far (probably to where Games Workshop used to be, I'll bet).

You'll be pretty well-placed for the market. I do like the row of butchers where they all seem to have more-or-less the same meat trays advertised for the same price, but then tempt you to buy from them by offering you extra stuff.

Yeah, I'll be able to get most of my veg and stuff from there.

In fact, screw Morrison's, I'll pass the market every day!

I do hope so. It's the best I have seen, anywhere in Leeds for that price. The government subsidised 25% off market price probably helps. smiley - winkeye Has the be the first time that I've appreciated earning less than 25k!

Aye, it sounds pretty good. Especially as you can count quite a saving in travel expenses.
