Also, on a completely non-professional note we were talking in the office the other day about star signs. Elena, our coder, thinks she knows a bit. She said that it was obvious what star signs people were, but when challenged she didnt want to guess ours.

If somebody told you a list of their stongest charactersitics, could you tell what star sign they are??

Probably not!

This could get complicated, so sit down with or or or whatever you think will work and start reading.

People rarely show their Sun sign. Most often, on a day-to-day basis it's the Moon that's working hardest. Elena may be able to 'guess' Sun signs but that's probably intuition rather that anything else.

If you know what you're looking for you can tell the Moon sign from the way a person reacts to crisis or surprise. A tantrum is most likely Aries or Leo. Worrying is usually Virgo. Acute paranoia is Scorpio. All that can be complicated by other planets in contact with the Moon modifying things so it's not necessarily that easy.

Again, if you know what to look for you can tell a person's rising sign (Ascendant) from the way they look – either in dress or in physical build. Hair is the give-away for Leo Rising – hence my little conceit in my nickname! Gemini or Virgo Rising tend to be slim; with Gemini it's the eternal youth thing, with Virgo it's all the nervous energy going into worrying. Scorpio tends to be small, dark, dangerous, piercing blue eyes and sex on legs. Both genders! Sagittarius are big, bluff, accident prone and sports types. Stuff like that.

Then it gets complicated (again) by having one or more planets rising that modify the Rising sign characteristics so it's really not that easy.

I can usually spot an Ascendant and probably a Moon. I'm not so good on the Sun, which is why I ask for the birth data!

Thanks for taking the time to explain all that. I’m going to be checking out all my friends to see if the signs are there now. They will probably think I'm being very strange.

I’ve always thought stars were nonsense but I am as vain as anybody and will definitely be having a go on the Book of Shadows thing.

I've been looking around all the H2G2 sites to see how different people do stuff. That’s why my messages are all over the place. Ill try and stay a bit more 360 faithful from now on.
