I once managed to find the place where I could see the date of my joining, but I've also managed to forget how. 
No, I didn't lurk a lot. I mainly spoke to Pierce the Pirate - an old mate refound - without writing an introduction on my PS. Then I was urged to do so by an Ace - and did. And continued - in the beginning - to treat h2g2 as another place to chat, just not in real time.
