Hi there!

Hello john, and welcome to H2G2. My name is Psycho monkey dragged through a vortex backwards, but like every one else just call me CK (its easier to type!).
Im an ACE (assisstant community editor) and its my job to introduce you to H2G2 and answer any of your questions. To send me a "post" back look at the bottom of this message and click the reply button. The button on the right hand side is the "yikes button" this, if clicked, sends the message to the moderation team. You should only press thins button if the posting breaches the house rules which can be found at:http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/HouseRules
I've prepared some links for you to get you started on H2G2, just click them to take you to that page. First of all a message to Newcomers from the people who run this place: http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/Welcome-Newcomers ,it tellls you most things you need to know about H2G2 and what its all about.
Second link is the GuideMl clinc, a place which teaches researchers how to use GuideML, H2G2's own own markup laguage which is similar and based on HTML but you'll learn more about that here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A187229
For information on smileys vist: thsi is the section of H2G2 which explains about smileys and how to make them appear. Once you know how, its hard to stop the little guys/girls appearing all over the place in your messages http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/Smiley
Lastly heres a link to my space which will be updated and as stated at the bottom is constantly under development. It explains who i am a little bit more and generally tells you my intrests and stuff http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/U182647
That was an awfull lot of information for you to take in so please if you have any questions hit that reply button (hopefully it won't hit you!)
Have fun on H2G2 it becomes very ingrossing

What onerous duties does keeper of the entail? I'm fortunate enough to be in a cable area, with access via 512 Kbaud cable modem
, so (hopefully?) avoiding the dangers of double posting - we'll see! We are having a practice Xmas today - turkey (no turkey smiley?

Lucky thing, i live in a village which has an ADSL line running through it but no connecter boxes. BT says "wait till 2005" !
Being keeper of the smiley means that i have to erm.........well............be keeper of it. I see youve really got the hang of smileys now and form the "whos online" button youve been on alot. Have you learnt GuideML yet? Whats a practise Christmas day?

Not looked into GuideML yet - I assume it is similar to HTML but better or simpler?
Hi there!
lw - ck Posted Dec 2, 2001
Yeah it builds upon it (a little) and is really used so that people can't put HTML onto the site and abuse it (porn, stuff like that) But all your key elemnts of HTML are there. Theres soon to be an update GuideML v1.0. Yoou enjoy practise Christmas?
