ps. who is sandman?

You made a post about a character called Morpheus, talking about dreams. I assumed you were referring to the Sandman comics by Neil Gaiman, which are about Dream, the ruler of the Dream World and the person in charge of sorting out any problems that happen with people's dreams. He is given the name of Morpheus to those who know him, and is also known as The Sandman, of course.
Like everything else Neil Gaiman has produced, the stories are fantastic, showing incredible imagination and a good deal of felicity with words. I'm currently working my way through the anthologies that have been put together of all the Sandman stories.

Of course. I see now. You were talking about Laurence Fishbourne in the Matrix. He's good too.
The author is:

NEIL GAIMAN

He's one of the best up-and-coming fantasy authors around. Just a month or so ago one of his books called 'American Gods' won a major sci-fi and fantasy award. He is now also working on not one, but two book-to-film projects.

cool, (i know i don't have most inventive statements) i think i will check out that sandman thing, so very much like a derivation or at least a distant variation of "dark city" which is a great mnovie and also an integration of "the matrix" hte W bothers stole some stuff from that as well.

I suspect it is an influence on them, but I think 'stole' is too strong a word. Nothing exists in isolation, and the environment in which a film or book or piece of music or painting, etc. can have a significant impact on the end result. The name Morpheus is more likely taken from somewhere else again and adopted by both productions. Certainly many of the other names in The Matrix can be seen to have been taken from Greek, Roman and Egyptian myths among others. 'Nebuchadnezzer', the name of their ship, is the name of a Biblical king.

Niobie was a lesser god in greek mythology i can't remember which one though, i know the name mopheus wasn't taken and yes stole is rather strong, but probably something with the dream idea.

I'm tempted to do a Google on 'Morpheus' and find out if anything leaps out by way of origins.

Well, that worked surprisingly well. And it seems that Gaiman had the right of it. Admittedly, from what it says, Laurence Fishburne's character can be said to play a similar metaphorical role in the first Matrix movie.

Seriously, though, it was easy. I just typed 'Morpheus mythology' into Google and it came up with that in the first three responses. It actually looks like a really interesting site, and I've saved it as one of my Favourites to read later.
