Dear fellow Christian I have written my first article for H2G2: A1126351 - Christian Theology: The Academic Subject Please read it and post your constructive comments on the thread for Peer Review. The full web address is: http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/classic/F48874?thread=301313 Note that without your support, my article will never get past unbelieving site Scouts into the Edited Guide. (Also note an avowed Atheist Theologian Sub Editor has had to admit that Christianity owns the right to the word Theology!) Thank you. Tell others please! Yours in Christ, U235328

Zarquon's Singing Fish!

Why is 'owning the right to the word 'Theology' important?

I think the article itself explains why.
Not only is Theology the academic study of CHRISIANITY by defenition - if Theology is lost to the others, then how can Christianity explain itself, to itself or in a 'Mission' situation to others?
The next step is to surender Scripture to revisionist editorial control.
If Muslim was talking to Muslim, then the Kuran oe its exposition, would not be considered to be treated in such a way, I'm sure.

I still find it rather sad that people have to stake a claim that 'I'm right, you're wrong' around a subject as important as God. There are many pathways and Christianity is just one of them.

If the term 'Theology' is shared, it makes no difference at all!

Theology is as defined in the article. This is not a definition thought up by me, it is the definition.

Is the quote that Christianity is but one way from orthodox scripture? I do not think so! There is no way, but through me says the Lord!

Hmm. I've seen other interpretations of that text and it used to be one that bothered me. However I can see we're never going to agree on this one.

I think the word theology was around in its Greek form long before Christianity, though!

Jhn 14:5 Thomas said to him, "Lord, we do not know where you are going; how can we know the way?"

Jhn 14:6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but by me.

The way. This has special prominence because of the context. It had been anticipated to some extent in the teaching about ‘the door’ (10:9).

The truth. Christ as truth makes the way dependable and infallible (cf. 1:14, 8:32,36; Eph 4:20,21).

The life. (cf. 1:4: 11:25).

No one comes. The verb puts Jesus on the side of ‘man’ (he does not say, ‘goes’). Thus, while being the guide, He does not guide to what is beyond Himself. Knowledge of the Son is the knowledge of God.

I have taken the above directly from the RSV interlinear Greek - English text and The Wycliffe Bible Commentry.
Which texts are you quoting?

No, actually, I was dropping by on my friend AR1smiley - schooloffish.

My feelings are that if people feel the need to 'justify' something, they are feeling defensive about it! Who knows, I may even agree with them, but t having something thrust down my throat leaves a very nasty taste in my mouth.

Christianity promises eternal life in communion with the Godhead. Buddhism promises complete annihilation of the self – the theological opposite; ie, one way of describing Hell!

Discuss that, but not here, and not with me!
