Ha Ha - Brass Eye Strikes Again
Posted Dec 21, 2001
I just have to get this down. Hee hee hee hee hee hee
Two members of the UK Parliament, Barbara Follett and Syd Rapson, complained to the Broadcasting Standards Commission about the ridicule they received over their involvement in the Brass Eye Paedophile Special.
Both MPs were hoodwinked into supporting a fictitious group that made ludicrous claims concerning paedophiles (eg that an internet paedophile could cause a child's keyboard to emit a gas to make them more suggestable). They were not alone; celebrities such as Gary Lineker, Phil Collins and Phillipa Forrester were also taken in.
The MPs claimed that this amounted to an unwarranted invasion of their privacy. The BSC concluded on December 12, 2001, that the set-up by the programme makers gave sufficient warning signs that it was the MPs own faults if they took what was said at face value.
Both claims were rejected.
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. This calls for a !!
PS (Bet you won't see this in the Daily Mail.)

Strange Time....
Posted Nov 22, 2001
I've just had a really strange time. I don't spend huge amounts of time on H2G2, but lurking around this lunchtime, I've come across the suspension of an account which is suspected of belonging to one of 20,000 personalities in one person. The reason for the suspension is that another of the personalities (19,998 to go ) was banned for life earlier this year.
This is indeed strange. If someone REALLY thinks that they have 20,000 personalities roaming around their head then I would personally never take offense at anything any of those personalities said. I'd simply think that that person needed a great deal of help, and should really be humoured as much as possible until the doctor arrives.
I'm not talking about multiple pseudonyms; I've been known to do that myself in the past, when I wanted to say something deliberately provocative without damaging my "normal" persona. I grew out of that a long time ago, and "Miss Anne Throppick" hasn't been seen for ages. (and never on H2G2). But using pseudonyms as manifestations of a multiple personality disorder? And having the argument that one personality cannot be held responsible for the actions of another? Sorry, that's far too removed from reality for me.
Such people need professional help. Not indulgence. Not vilification. Not abuse. Not punitive action. Professional help. And drugs.
