Hi MaGaRoux, Shee and I are having a dual "birthday party" online on Saturday the 17th about 3pm Memphis TN time. Not sure what time zone I'm in, sorry. You're welcome to come by and join in the festivities. The thread is the one that starts out "the Beatles!" and is now "Birthday Party-yippee!" Hope you get this message in time, I know it's kind of short notice. Ellen

darnit! sorry i missed your party. i hope it was a good time. my boss gave me a turkey today, so i'm very happy. i hope your birthday was even better than receiving a turkey at your place of business! That was my attempt at a birthday greeting; i should work for hallmark.

My birthday was quite nice, even without a turkey. Some of my brothers and sisters took me out for fajitas, which were yummy. I got some nice gifts - an Onion parody book, some Monster Inc. stuffed animals, a Marvin the Martian mug, and some movie coupons. Fun, fun. I bought some videos too - The Imposters, a very funny movie, and The Beach. Hope you have a nice Thanksgiving. A friend of mine will be coming in town for the holiday; it will be so nice to see her. Enjoy your turkey! My brother is frying ours this year, so we'll see how it turns out.

first of all, i hope your thanksgiving was good. secondly, i LOVE fried turkey. and that turkey i got from my boss, we havent even cooked it yet. i went to thanksgiving with my family, and we already had a fried turkey, a baked turkey, and a smoked one (big family, not five morbidly obese people!), so i'm cooking my turkey this week. actually, my boyfriend's gonna cook it, which i'm scared of because he has that little glint in his eye, "a whole turkey to play with!" i just know he's gonna blow it up or something and have our house smell like gizzards forever. which onion book dod you get? if you got the Finest News Reporting, or something like that, that's the one i have. it's so hilarious! if that's the one you have check out "Mr. T to Pity Fool." it's the funniest one. have you read the onion's coverage of the september 11th stuff? i love how their logo isn't "america strikes back" or anything dopey like that. it's a picture of a flaming silhouette of the u.s. in crosshairs and the title is "Holy F*cking Sh*t!" that's much more how i feel about the whole thing.

Sorry I've been so long getting back to you. I can just see your boyfriend blowing up the turkey, what a hoot.
I got two of the Onion books, but not the one you have. I got Our Dumb Century and Dispatches From the Tenth Circle. I laughed myself sick over the September 11 coverage in the Onion, feeling a bit guilty as I did so. The logo, as you mentioned, was so appropriate. I loved it. I had to sneak my books into the house, because I don't think my folks would approve of the Onion's dark humor. That is funny in itself, to be sneaking around at my age (36).
On a serious note, I found out tonight that George Harrison had died. I'm still waiting for that to kind of sink in. He was a lovely person wasn't he? Smart and funny and deeply spiritual. He and the other Beatles touched so many lives.

george was my favorite beatle. i was at work (at a carpet cleaners' shop) when i heard the news on npr. i actually broke the news to some customers. some were profoundly sad, while others looked at me as though they wanted me to explain why they should care. when i was a teenager and sure that i would be famous, my entire objective was to meet george harrison. now there's only one way to do that, but at least i don't have to worry about getting famous; we'll be in the same place eventually. unless there's a separate heaven for beatles. and don't worry about sneaking around with the onion; i'm 22 and my mom found out only a few months ago that i smoke cigarettes! but i'm trying to quit now. it's funny, when i was in second grade, i had a diary in which i wrote that you shouldn't do anything that you don't want your mother to know about and that that should be the rule of thumb for succeeding in life. now i feel that some of the best things in life are things you don't tell your mom about!
