Really helps things, doesn't it? I think my punches are coming along nicely, but my chudan-uke is still weak. I think this is an ineffective block for women (who generally have little upper body strength naturally). Shuto is probably a better one, using the rotation of the body to block the strike. I am apparently examining for my purple belt in december, which is a bit intimidating, but I think I'll make it just fine. I think perhaps if I tack a bit of padding on one of the doorframes in the house I should be able to use it to practice blocking on.

I also have a muscle on the outside of my left thigh which is threatening to go all wonky on me. Yoko-geri side kicks are challenging!

Hopefully tonight I will be able to see the stars. It's been cloudy for a few days and I've missed things. Capella rising was one of them... Cetus should be up soon.

Hi leuco,

Yes, Karate is great; I was in my best shape, mentally and physically, when I was working out in karate. I got my Black Belt in September of 1989 in Wa Do Ryu, an Okinawa style of karate. I don't have a lot of time to devote to it anymore. smiley - sadface

The way to do a sidekick is to bring your leg up into position and think that you are going to stomp on a bug the wall. It’s the same motion as bring your foot way up to stomp on a bug on the floor but to the side. I hope that visual helps.

A good way to practice your roundhouse kicks is to put a chair (who's back is about waist high) to your side. This makes you bring your leg up all the way though the kick. Remember to kick over the chair.

Good luck on your test,

Thanks, honey!

I think I'm getting the form down with the side-kick pretty well. I'm studying the nisei goju-ryu style of karate here in the Bahamas... sensei is more than a little eccentric... big black Bahamian dude who works at the power station smiley - smiley I had a hell of a time figuring out how to do the spinning back kick at first, but now it's a lot of fun. I overworked myself a little yesterday and I'm all sore now. Got to get my paws on some tiger balm smiley - smiley

Do you chat on yahoo? You can try pm'ing me if you do... my nick is leucocephala

I like the idea of h2g2 but it's put together with some darn weird code. I agree with you about GuideML!

cheers,

Hi Leuco,

I do occasionally chat on yahoo (my nick and email address is david_lca(you can also see a picture of me on my yahoo profile)), but the only time I have to chat is at work or late at night at home. So I don't chat very much but, I'll keep my eye open for you when I'm on-line.

Don't work to hard and if I can help you let me know.
