h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

I vaguely remember you .... I too went away for a while (due to computer problems) but, like you I came back - there really is no place quite like h2g2 is there? It has its problems, its crazies (but you've got to love them) and its own unique style.

Things have certainly changed a lot, not least all the moderation stuff! The Guide has a spooky Big Brother feel about it now - but perhaps I'm being a bit hasty. I will reserve judgement until I have had time to browse around more.

I wasn't working when I first joined h2g2 and had a lot more time to experiment, learnt the beginnings of web-authoring in html (GuideML)thanks to many sleepless nights. I'm rusty now and also working full-time again but hope to pick up the threads as and when I can - I may well call on you for a bit of advice once I get into it again!

PS I've now managed to reinstate my old page (U32083) but I see that the moderators have removed my pics and most of my entries are still hidden - I suppose I will have to wait till they get round to vetting them.

The moderation isn't as bad as it sounds - and, if the moderators leap on something a little too quickly sometimes it can usually be sorted out The main changes are ... no off BBC links to be posted in threads (though you can still have them on your user page) and no non-English postings (apparently moderators are NOT bi-lingual )

Re your pics - if they were off site pics they won't be restored - but there are lots of nice pics in the graphics library on-site that you can use. If you use external links on your page make sure that they are accessible - broken links cause moderation.

BTW - don't hang by your thumbs waiting for old stuff to be restored - all you will end with is veeeerrrry long thumbs but if there is something that you particularly want restored a polite request in Feedback got results for me.
