The Iron Maiden

Every day I go to work all smiley - yuk wondering when the hell this horrendous gig's going to end. As the day passes the routine of packing test tubes becomes gradually more endearing, in the sense you get used to it and just think about getting out at the end of the day, and the money. The weekend rolls around and any memory of the previous week is blotted out in an alcoholic stupor. Monday rolls around and the cycle starts again.

My job is so crap, but the money is cool and I'm used to it by now. Better the devil you know...

Meh.

You don't want to live the rest of your life like that, right?

HELL NO!!! Funnily enough, Audacity finished downloading just this second...

Hmmm...maybe after this weekend, look for new job, sort out UCAS form for Uni, and look to upgrading comp in order to press demos and get out of this little rut! Bwahahahahahaha!

TIM, it's not worth it to stay in a bad place. Granted it's taken me years to learn this myself, but I really think that I can be happier if I leave a bad gig. Find what you want and go for it.

smiley - doh wouldn't have thought to download the bloody MANUAL! smiley - blush Just came through.

Thanks for the props Marv. Part of the problem, like I say, is gradually thinking "oh it's not so bad" as the day wears on and the end gets closer. I'm considering a chef's job at the cafe my mate works at. Just down the road from me, hopefully get a late shift so I don't have to serve anyone. That's the biggest problem I see - customers.

smiley - laugh That's what I always said about working in a school -- it would be great if there weren't any students.

Easiest way out of a problem? Wait to be pushed! smiley - biggrin

Apparently I was too slow. I'd like to see the supervisor who kept hassling me about that try and handle two lines by herself while the label's snapped on one. And actually getting trained and getting practise like everyone else got would've sure helped.

As it happens I've learnt everything except Glenn's second solo on Rock Hard Ride Free by Judas Priest as of today (I don't play K.K.'s parts) so these workplaces know where to stick it!

There's no such thing as a good job until you're educated enough to do something you enjoy so much that it doesn't seem like work. And you're going to have to find ~something~.

It shouldn't be conveyor belt work for you anyway -- you're too big a lad to be as nimble as the task requires. I did a conveyor belt job at a tile factory when I was in college, before I got fired for fraternizing with the African-American help (this was some time ago), although they gave other excuses concerning my inability to get the tiles off the ceramic bricks without breaking a few. I found out the real reason because one of the factory bosses was my uncle.

You don't have an excuse like that, although being physically unsuited to the job is no disgrace. Meanwhile, you need to save up for university!

How times change, eh? My first thought when I saw all the different colours coming and going through the factory was "equal opportunities slavery!". A lot of foreign students coming through, cool bunch usually.

Reminds me, I still need to fill out the form for University, doy... smiley - blush
