No I was educated at "The Maharishi School of the Age of Enlightenment" (don't laugh.. ohps you all just have done..) the school run by the TM movement.

I left under duress at the age of 12 after I decided to rebel by doing medicine, as a result I refused to take part in group medication because I wanted to be normal, and I questioned some of the ethlos of the cult a lot.

(and did any of them get better exam results than I did at the local "failing" comprehensive.. smiley - winkeye)

Oh, now I'm intrigued. No I'm not laughing, Z. Tell me more! Where was this? Is it still in existence? Is there a Guide Entry in it?

Yes it is still in existance, MSAE is the school run by the TM movement - and there isn't a guide entry about it, though there is one on the TM movement, (written by me)- A794388

And I did publish an article in the student BMJ on my experiences of growing up in the movement. Sorry about the plug - but here it is.

Zarquon's Singing Fish!

Oh, I see we have things in common, Z. My mother was (and still is) a Christian Scientist, which affected how she brought us up. She believed that when we were ill, it was as a result of faulty thinking. Fellow Christian Scientists were very quiet when they were ill, often not going to church when they had colds. I have to say, though, that mum is rarely ill. She doesn't believe in ageing and although she's now 81, her hair is less grey than nine (I have two streaks near the temples), she is fit and healthy and can still do the splits. I've never been able to do the splits. She does them daily!

As a student, I studied TM until my husband forbad me to meditate. I now meditate daily and find it helps me stay calmer. I'm now interested in Advaita Vedanta.

I'm now convinced there is a strong interrelation between the way I feel about myself and my state of health. Work by people like Dr Candace Pert supports this and I suspect that more evidence will emerge as more research is carried out.

Sounds as though you resisted being force fed ideology, as did I.

Where was the school, Z? Is there a website?

It's in Skelmersdale, Lancashire, where we have a community of people. The community website is here - http://www.maharishi-european-sidhaland.org.uk/Links.htm

and the school is http://www.maharishischool.com/welcome/

It's odd looking at it, I recognise all of the teachers on the photo gallery..

I think there's a lot of truth in thinking that many illnesses are a result of faulty thinking, but of course many are not..

Fascinating. I'll have a good poke and a prod when I have a bit more time. Still think it would be a good subject for an entry, Z. I remember the one on TM - I recommended it! smiley - biggrin

I suspect that our state of mind probably has a great deal to do with our state of health. When we feel good, our immune system works really well, when we're not, we often seem to attract stuff - viruses and even accidents. Of course, our state of mind has a lot to do with our lifestyle too, which in turn governs our health.

Which learned judge said that 'a man's state of mind is as determinable (provable?) as the state of his digestion' (when seeking to determine mens rea)?
