I have taken the liberty of adding you to my *friends * list. Anyone who likes Stafford Oatcakes must be a ( add you own complimentary adjective ) person

I hope this is ok with you , I don't expect to be much of a correspondent , but I have been happy to receive your advisory postings

And you have an Apple Mac! I have an iMac OSX (10.2). Great!

I have not updated past the 0S9.2 as I am not convinced that I actually need any more than that

I have found the iMac wonderfully user friendly, and as I extended my warranty and the *help* option for three years , I found the Appletechs here patient , friendly and skilful . I have used them a lot

Alas , the warranty finishes in April, and the extended help finishes with it , so I will have to find other ways round solving any Mac problems . Hopefully my *expertise* will grow at a speedier pace than my alzheimer's , and I may not need to call on them so often .
Oddly, the hard drive is almost brand ( or is that bran ? ) new as a surge blew my old one -- I was bereft and berserk for a while then.

At my age of 74 , though , the computer will possibly last longer than I will !!

Have you found the Mac Users' Group on h2g2 yet, brislib? They can be helpful. Also there is help on-line from the Apple people.

First part of the question , no , I didn't know about them , so thanks for that . I will hunt them up-- but perhaps you might give me a quick way into the group ?

Yep , know of Mac on line help -- the problem there is the time factor -- the Appletechs were only a phone call away -- and I had some long and interesting converstions with Damon , Jamie , Martin, a couple of Pauls , a Hamish and many others ( and I hesitate here lest I sound racist ), with a couple of Asian lads and lasses whose accent and command of English made them difficult to follow -- but who usually managed to come through in the end !

Will now go look for the h2g2 group

The group is on A690693 if you haven't found it.

I know what you mean about heavily accented English being difficult to follow. Hopefully the lads and lasses knew their business.

The other thing you could think of doing is to extend your Applecare policy for another three years. It's always helpful to have instant help.
