Hi Stardust! I wanted to meet you after reading your page. I took Aikido for a couple years, while a teacher lived in town. It was great! I also agree with your thoughts on religion and humans that you have posted. Write me back if you wish.

Hello Athena

It's good to meet you. I didn't know if anyone would find my page, I am fairly new to h2g2, and I wondered if people might find it too serious! I'm glad you like it. I've been doing Aikido for 13 years now, off and on with some health problems and overwork, and am just getting back into it after a bit of a gap. Exercise and keep fit are boring, and a lot of other martial arts are aggressive, but Aikido is intelligent, mentally challenging, keeps you fit and seems to bring out the best in people. It also keeps you young! smiley - magic

I saw your name on the George Harrison page thingy, and came by. Thats cool that you have taken Aikido for so long, you must be getting really good! I really liked it while I took it. Whta else to you do? Have you ever role played?

Why aren't you doing Aikido now if you like it? Isn't there a club near you? Lots of us are not that young any more and have gammy knees etc (not me) but still keep going.

I like organic gardening and trying to grow bonsai. I also read a lot and listen to music, but I haven't tried role play. I did once have a go at a computer game based on Dune and did quite well, but never had time to get back to it. I suppose Aikido could be a kind of role play, with the hakama, weapons etc. I very much like Iaido (solo sword drawing) which we do.

Hello! I left an explaination of my long absence in our other conversation, I won't repeat here for fear of being dull. I quit Aikido because the teacher left town. I hope to be able to continue next year though, I have heard rumors of his return. (Not to make this sound like the second coming or anything)smiley - biggrin Hope your still around!

Hello again - just a quickie - you don't have to stick with one Aikido teacher (unless you want to) - have a look on www.bab.org.uk, it is the web site of the British Aikido Board, a body that looks over Aikido in Britain. It has info about clubs and associations all over the country, and links to their sites.

It took me ten years to find an Aikido club to practice in, after I first heard about it; in fact it found me in the end rather than the other way round - a club opened just near my house. Only a couple of years ago I started going on courses run by another organisation, as well as my own association's courses - taught by a Japanese teacher, Sensei Chiba. They are very good, and are organised by the British Aikikai.
