Did you say Lincolnshire?

Hello,

I spotted a post from you somewhere that mentioned you live in Lincolnshire and I wondered where abouts? I lived there myself from the age of 10 until I was 21. My parents still live near Boston, but I myself escaped to Suffolk 16 years ago.

Yes, Spalding in South Holland. I failed a couple of A Levels at Boston College. I hope to escape too when I have some money.

So, you're roughly in the area I know. I think Spalding had a good reputation for night life at one time (not that I knew much about it - I went to an Italian Restaurant there in about 1987 but that was it) - is there much to do there now?

I did a couple of evening classes at Boston College so I vaguely know it. My parents live at Swineshead and I went to secondary School in Donington. I'm still in touch with a couple of my old school friends and I do sometimes pop up to see them and my parents (and my Grandma who lives at Brothertoft, or as my town dwelling boyfriend calls it 'the-middle-of-know-where'). The last time I was there was for a brief visit at Christmas time.

My family are not originally from Lincolnshire so moving away seemed like the natural thing to do. My younger brother tunnelled out about 8 years ago and he now lives in Birmingham. I still have the impression that the only work available in Lincolnshire is connected to the farming industry and if you want anything else you really have to move away.smiley - run

I'm not from here originally either we moved here when I was about 10. Good night life! in splod! ha! only if you're 14 and all you want to do is get drunk. There are now 2 Italian restaurants, plus several Chinese and a couple of Indian restaurants too. But more importantly a Dominos recently opened in town, yay!

Work wise in Spalding most of the jobs are factory related packing fruit and veg for supermarkets. Most of the field work seems to be done by badly paid gangs of the not always terribly legal immigrant variety.

So I'm planning to have left by the end of the year if I can. Not sure where to yet, Peterborough is nearby but Norwich is nicer. Or maybe if I win the lottery I don't buy tickets for Brighton.

Ipswich, I've never been there, is it nice?

Ipswich is pleasant enough. It's not pretty like Norwich, but otherwise is probably quite similar. There are plenty of pubs and clubs and restaurants (not that I go out that often) and a good shopping area. We are only about 15 miles from the sea, less than a 30 minute drive from constable country and other such scenic countryside and it is only just over an hours train ride to London. I think possibly accomodation is a bit more expensive here than in Norwich. I've been to Norwich a couple of times and it seems like a nice place. You're certainly correct when you say Norwich is nicer than Peterborough!
