howdy,
I'm a newbie too, though haven't got the hang of those smiley faces. A bit old-fashioned- just use the keyboard!
Now I feel a bit self-consicous about my own intro'...hope folk out there don't think I'm trying to imitate the late, great Douglas Adams!!

Why hello!
Your intro is fine, because you have something interesting to say in it, whereas I can't seem to think of anything....Perhaps someday I will And the smileys are bery easy, just like normal ones : ) (without the space) looks like . And some of them are words with < > around them (like < elf > and < chick > and if you click on a smiley it tells you the code for it . I really am fond of the smileys if you hadn't guessed already . I would love to read some of your stories/poems and hear your music! As far as I can tell you can post any external links on your Space Or you could email it to me ([email protected]).

Hi, I'm a very new newbie! My introduction is painfully embarrassing so we'll skip right over that. Just thought I'd say hi
Hi, I'm a newbie too..

Hello! At least your intro was *different* and not at all embarassing!
And I take it from your name you are a LOTR fan too? Have you seen the trailers for the film yet? I'm getting excited already!
kin
LOTR?
battery boy Posted Aug 5, 2001
Thanks for your reply. What's LOTR? Not too up on abbreviations I'm affraid! I'll E-mail you the site address. It's still under construction but I believe people can see it in it's rough-edged form.
The Battery Boy nickname is because I have a pacemaker. Everyone says "arent't you young for a pacemaker?!" Yes, 26 was young but I met someone the other day who had her's put in when she was 15!!
It's great because like Durcell I can now literally go on and on. But I won't here.....
Cheerio Battery Boy

Don't be coy about your intro' Arwen, nothing is going to compare to the shame of my entire family when I eventually release my album on the web. I think my mother will say that her son is not in a dodgy group but will maintain he is in prison for various crimes against the state.
Bye for now

LOTR
Elfkin [181711] Posted Aug 5, 2001
LOTR = Lord of the Rings Must have read that book 4 or 5 times already...
lol @ batteryboy! (not the pacemaker, the mother), I know the feeling!

LOTR
Arwen Posted Aug 6, 2001
ooooooooooo Lord of the Rings, yes I am very definitely a fan! I've read it twice and I'm re-reading it now so I have a big grin on my face most of the time (well I'm not literally reading it now as even I haven't managed to combine my two favourite things, reading and being on the net ) Do either of you read Harry Potter, very similar and very good if you don't you should try it...I can't wait for both of those films to come out!!
Battery Boy, you'll have to tell me your website address when you release your album as I would love to have a listen, I have a mate who's in a band and his parents have the same reaction as yours! .
Hopefully speak to you both soon because you make me chuckle and it's nice to meet some other newbies!

LOTR
battery boy Posted Aug 6, 2001
how foolish of me, of course. I saw a brief, very brief, snippet on breakfast TV at the begining of the year. Most annoyingly it won't be with us until Xmas, I think....
Cheerio

LOTR

We do indeed have a few months left to wait (enough time to re-read a couple of times ). As for Harry Potter, I enjoyed the books, but they aren't as memorable and lasting as LOTR. Do you by any chance know when the next book will be out? I had thought it was July but it seems not...
kin
Not as memorable?
Arwen Posted Aug 6, 2001
I love HP! But you're right I do prefer LOTR. There are so many rumours about when the next HP book is coming out ranging from January 2002 to October 2002. Personally I think it will be about July 2002 (that's aggggeeeeeesss!)
What do you two think of Terry Pratchett's Discworld series? I think thay're fantastic, and quite like Hitch Hiker's, absolutely brilliant!

Elfkin [181711] Posted Aug 7, 2001
I love the Discworld!! I think my favourites are the Guards books (I especially love Carrot). One of the best things about the Discworld books (aside from being hilarious) is that there are so many of them! Gives me plenty to read .
kin
You're right, they are lots-fantastic!
Arwen Posted Aug 7, 2001
Yes, I agree the 'guards' books are my favourite too. I do like Carrot but I think that Vimes and Vetinari are my favourites-especially Vetinari's views on mime artists (Learn the words...!!)
You're right, THERE are lots-fantastic!
Elfkin [181711] Posted Aug 7, 2001
I agree! (about the editing posts and Vetinari). I am also a big fan of Death of Rats (SQUEEK!) and the Librarian (Ook!) . Have you ever read Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time? It's kind of similar to Tolkien, but it does go on a bit (9 books so far, each about 800 pages).
kin
You're right, THERE are lots-fantastic!
Arwen Posted Aug 7, 2001
No I haven't read those, I'll keep an eye open for them
Ahhhh, I forgot, Death is actually my favourite character, he is fantastic!! I really love The Hogfather (HO HO HO) hee hee hee ROTFLMBO
You're right, THERE are lots-fantastic!
Elfkin [181711] Posted Aug 9, 2001
The Hogfather has to be one of the best...I'm currently reading Pyramids which is also brilliant (so far at least). Have you read the new book - Thief of Time? It's meant to be good (but aren't all his books?).
kin
ALL of his books ARE good!
Arwen Posted Aug 9, 2001
I haven't read Thief of Time or the Truth yet because our library is really small, and I usually wait to buy them when they come out in paperback (or get them for Christmas). This is great because it means that I get about three to read in a go
ALL of his books ARE good!
Elfkin [181711] Posted Aug 9, 2001
'Tis much the same with me . I usually read solidly for two weeks after Chrismas and then have nothing to read until my birthday (in July). Still, good while it lasts.
kin
ALL of his books ARE good!
Arwen Posted Aug 11, 2001
Yeah, the week or so after Christmas before I go back to college is the best, I just read!
So what else do you like? Have you seen 'Withnail and I'-I bought the screenplay for that yesterday, I LOVE that film :D
