Thank you for calling in on Sister Bluebird - really nice to hear from you smiley - biggrin.

*offers Shagbark a smiley - tea or smiley - coffee and a slice of smiley - cake*

I've been really busy at work recently, so haven't been around at h2g2 as much as I would like. But, like you, I want to sort out my personal space too *looks around and sees its a bit untidy and could do with a bit of attention*. Maybe now the winter is coming in, I'll spend a bit more time doing some stuff.

And, living in the UK, I actually gain an extra hour tomorrow (British Summer Time ends and we all put the clocks back an hour) so I'll put it to good use! Also, I promise to visit you at your space soon. Take care smiley - bluebutterflysmiley - peacedove

Well, the United States is well into it's Christmas Season. War doesn't seem to have changed anyones habits about decorating for the holidays except maybe a few more flags here and there.

smiley - xmastreeChristmas season is in full swing here as well (the street/shop decorations have been up for a month now anyway).

I suppose for those good folks in America, the Christmas routines at least are familiar and reassuring ... and thats what we all look for during unsettling times. However, I'm sure there will be a lot more people all around the world thinking a bit deeper about peace and the real Christmas message this year... what do you think? smiley - peacedovesmiley - bluebutterfly

Christians the world over, myself included will be thinking about how
Christ became a man. But many in this country will be thinking more of a Jolly Red suited figure who brings gifts, or how to decorate their property.

How do you plan to celebrate Christmas Day / New Year?

I'll be going to my auntie's house for the traditional clan gathering - all my brothers, sisters, cousins meet up every year. Thing is, my auntie has a fairly small house and the kitchen table can only seat about 8 people. So there are several sittings - the timings depend on when people arrive ... and who has been to the pub for a drink first!

My family celebrate Christmas more than New Year, but my inlaws prefer New Year - most people in Scotland celebrate New Year more. Still haven't decided quite what to do this year.

What about you? smiley - bluebutterfly

Poor smiley - injuredSister Bluebird. I hope your mouth heals well.
as to Christmas It is considered the biggest thing of the year by retailers. They seem to start celebrating earlier every year.
In my circle of acquaintances Christmas cards are sent, received and
many have personal notes telling what happened over the last 365 days. In past years the family has gotten together and exchanged
presents. The computer I am writing this on was a Christmas Present from my sister. Most gifts are much less expensive.
This year since one nephew has six children, another niece has four
and the number of presents was getting more than people wanted to spend we just decided that we would not do gifts. We would simply have a family dinner and sit around and visit. New years here is a time for sitting in front of the television set and watching the ball drop in Times Square (NYC) or joining public gatherings like
Fest-Eve which is held at a convention center downtown. The consumption of alcohol by those out partying makes all of us wary of drunk drivers as we return home from a New Years Eve celebration.
Many do not think it is worth the risk and stay home. Others say it is just another day and go to bed at their usual hour on December 31.

Well, it's Christmas Morning. My wife and I exchaged gifts and she gave me a CD-Rom of the study Bible for my computer.
One hour from now I will be driving to my sister's place and the
west side of Michigan is supposed to have between 3-6 inches of snow with poor driving conditions. I'm going anyway.

Haven't dropped by h2g2 for a while - busy time finishing up at work, visiting people and spending time at home. Also, I don't get near the computer much when my husband is on holiday...

Hope you had a nice Christmas. My husband bought me a couple of CDs (including "The Hidden Face" composed by John Tavener) and the "Oxford Book of English Verse" - smiley - biggrinSome people might think that's really boring, but I am delighted with both.

I didn't realise the weather was so bad near you - we had forecasts for snow, but fortunately it hasn't materialised. I get very nervous driving in snow - I hope your journey went OK smiley - smiley

Wishing you a very happy and peaceful year in 2002. smiley - bluebutterfly

And a blessed and peaceful Easter to you.
I've been on my travels (in cyberspace) away from h2g2 for a while. I've just returned. Fancy another game of chess sometime?

perhaps we could play one in April, I don't feel like startting one this week. I spend a lot of my h2g2 time on that pirate ship the
Blood of the Zaphonistas or at the Society for the Addition of a Towel smiley. How do you like the new DNA structure. It lets you put in page numbers Like A620 without long addresses.

It worked when I tried it, but it is so easy to misplace a : or whatever. Then again Fortune City has been known to have occasional server problems.
