that is how happy I am today
I am now a volunteer museum custodian, which entails meeting and greeting and working in the shop, I don't get to touch precious things or anything, yet.
This is something that I have always wanted to do, work in a museum, not a burning ambition or anything just ever if the opportunity presented itself, I'd take it, it did and I did and it is perfect. I will be doing a morning a week and helping out at events if I am available, which is not a huge commitment and when a paid job comes along I will be able to manage both
I have volunteered all my life and because my life has been chaotic and I have wanted to find paid work first I have been reluctant to commit to anything and it something that I have been missing.
Also I wanted to do something new, I am an old hand at community and environmental work. I am interested in local history in a casual, adhoc way up until now but I am looking forward to getting my teeth into it. As well as being surrounded by the stuff, I am allowed to raid the bookshelves if it is quiet or in my own time, obviously there are people with a whole lot of knowledge and enthusism that I will get to meet and when I get settled they will teach me cataloguing which is right up my street.
All that, and I get to give something back, even if it a small something in the scheme of things, it a something and small things add up, in this case to a museum staying open
So that is me, one happy or a pig in muck

I thought of the but just imagined how dribbly it would be, at least bird poo can be comsidered lucky being splattered by pig muck doesn't even have that going for it
besides, so hot flying bit much effort, rolling in it sounds quite cooling

That sounds like a lot of fun and who knows where it might lead? I'm a huge advocate for volunteering. I hope you have a fab time and steer clear of deliveries!

oo thank you kind sir
as you mention it als, from memory there is bones and a quite a big refurb coming up so if I can find even the most tenuous link that Brain Blessed has to this town...
Maria I have great eyebrows(well I think they are great) and I am really fond off them, generations of my family have these eyebrows. My sister offered to pluck them once, I refused, not really my thing but also how would I keep the children in check elsewise
Sus, I was going to drop round yours today because I was worried that you'd be think I was ignoring you, I'm just not used to seeing you around so much, it is good that you are . I thought you owed me an email, but I checked in my drafts and there is one I didn't finish from a couple of months back , sorry
A, mutual for us today

Brain Blessed - i love it!
i'm sure he has many wondrous qualities, but i suspect that the above description is well down the list
if you can get Mr B to open a Mammoth exhibition at your Museum, i want to be there!!
well done you

I'll invite you too then , I'll even put you up, I'm sure we can find floorspace somewhere
I'm just wondering which unsuspecting commitee member we could get to put up our other guest of honour who has been renamed Brain

you're very kind!
and the idea of setting up my sleeping bag on a mammoth-skin kaftan is of course very appealing!
if such an off-the-wall event as Mr B opening a local 'Moth Exhibition DID come to pass, then i think you guys would have plenty things on your plate to attend to!
i'm sure there will be an a-l-s-shaped-B&B in the area
oh, sheesh - i'm starting to believe this whole madcap idea can actually happen!!!
a preliminary google suggests Mr B lives in the area where my dad worked many moons ago, about 20-30 miles south of London
he has got involved with a local cause previously, but the South West might be a fridge too far
however - how's this for a hoopy idea...
IF it looks like some kind of ceremony might be in order, to put the museum on the map (and i guess the committee will all have to sign-up to the idea) then how about the following (or similar)
Mr B is engaged to visit the area to appear at an "Audience with Mr B" - will need a venue, tickets sold, etc
could be a dinner (not posh) - families bring picnics, but non-alky beverages provided? - keep costs low - Mr B writes children's books, so could be asked to spend some time reading to kids, as well as a Q&A session open to all present
Ticket sales divided between payment to Mr B; providing rail & 1 night B&B costs for Mr B; venue costs -
Mr B also asked to open museum event next day before leaving? - publicity in local press & radio for both museum & Mr B
this would be a lot of work, so would need lots of pulling-together in the community!
obviously i should help in some way or other since i seem to have kicked-off this whole sorry mess - it's juuuuusstt possible that i could provide a band for a bop, depending on dates and my persuasive powers
phew - tell me i'm mad - please!

i should have made clear: ...free band for a bop...

Peanut Posted May 23, 2012
you are quite delightfully mad
the closest I have managed to place Brain is in Bristol so far, that is not far
we have a bandstand, I mean how cool is that surely you can't resist, I'm running with this now, I am thinking that the arts centre is as under as much pressure as the museum, some kind of fund raising link up
googling Brain froze my puter, but before it did I think I read that he was in Bristol in his youf,at the Old Vic theatre school, with Patrick Stewart, there is an outside chance that he visited here, might have fond memories, it's a stretch by hey
family events during the day is a good plan but alky free, and tent always a winner, we'll get an temporary events notice
the museum are desperate for fund-raisers, begging they are, why tinker around the edges, I say, a mammoth event is called for
