Doom and Despondancy ...

Well, Norman, we always need people of your ilk in and around these parts, if only to take the happy-sheen off things.

So Welcome. Consider this an official ACE (Assistant Community Editor) welcome. Can I interest you in smiley - cake and smiley - bubbly as our 179626th customer.

As an ACE it is my, and my fellow ACE's job to welcome you in, hold your hand and generally point you in the right direction. Seeing as you've been here before, though, that hardly seems necessary.

You stated that you'd forgotten what your previous ID was. Well, Peta (http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/u24) and Abi (http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/u281) should be able to help you reincarnate yourself.

If you're happy in your current incarnation but feel that a helping hand wouldn't go amiss, please do leave a message on my homepage or reply to this, or alternatively ask another ACE (a list can be found at http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/Aces). None of us bite (smiley - yikes), and even if we can't help we'll know someone who can.

Have a wander, enjoy and do as much as little as you wish.

Ekki

Ekki, thanks for the welcome although I was a bit surprised to see your comments on doom & despondancy taking the happy sheen off things etc etc. They say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder so prehaps the doom is in the mind of the reader because I certainally was not feeling glum when I wrote the intro. I allways concidered Marvin to be quite a cheerful character and not so nearly as paranoid as he was made out to be, but I suppose thats just my personal interpretation.
Anyhow, thanks for taking an interest.
See ya, Norman.

PS, say hello to the knights who say Ni for me.

I wasn't passing judgement on your introduction, I was merely leaping to assumptions as to your moody frame of mind in the light of the fact that you state that you empathise with our favourite paranoid android.

As it happens, re-reading your intro, doom and despondancy was possibly a mis-leading subject heading.

Thanks and sorry about any misunderstandings there. The empathy bit refers to the pains in the diodes down the left side etc and I was poking fun at an old knee injury that will be forever with me. But I guess thats totally not obvious unless youh happen to know. Little wordle little wordle.
Changeing the subject entirely, how do I go about getting all these happy smiley faces, cake slices and things into text messages? They look good.
Best regards, Norman.

I agree! I've always rather liked Marvin - although I don't know if I could stand meeting anyone like him! I can also claim afinity with the "terrible pain in all the joints down my left side", but I won't. Here's to cheerful doom and despondancy, and long live dry humour.

PS Have you ever read "The Silver Chair" by CS Lewis? It's one of the Chronicles of Narnia, and has a rather Marvinesque character called Puddleglum the Marshwiggle. Again, a character I very much like! Does this at all reflect on my personality?

Hello there Cadi Merchionamercheluned. Wow! What a name! There are many people on H2G2 with colourful names but yours is really quite something, where does it come from? Is it perchance Welsh, and what does it mean? I would be quite interested to know.

I have to say that I have never heard of "The Silver Chair" although I figure I can redeem myself a bit on account that I have heard of CS Lewis and the Chronicles of Narnia. This is one of the series of books that I have on my "to read one day" list along with "The Hobbitt". Unfourtunataly I have a tendancy to buy books faster than I read them and am therefore trying to cut down (Even so I've still purchassed about 6 so far this year).

The last SciFi fantasy books I read were the Chronicles Of Thomas Covenant by Stephen Donaldson (7 volumes) and the Belgariad and Malloreon series (10 volumes) by David Eddings. Both were very good and if your into that kind of thing well worth reading.

Long live dry humour !!! Hoorah!! Regards, Norman. smiley - dog

Hi Norman,

Yes, it's Welsh and so am I (mostly). The name means "Katy, Janet's daughter, Lynne's daughter", so I'm Cadi for short.

Do read the Chronicals of Narnia, they're good. The Hobbit is also a great story, and even better when coupled with "The Lord of the Rings". JRR Tolkein lived in a world of his own, and the detail he creates is wonderful, even if it suggests a man who must have been ever so slightly not with it. He can't have had much time for real life what with putting so much into "Middle Earth".

I've not heard of either of the series you mentioned, but I'll look out for them. I like sci-fi and fantasy, although I am careful how much I read. Aside from ending up like Tolkein, reading can eat up your time dangerously fast, and I'm supposed to be studying. (As, in fact, I am now)

So long, Cadi. smiley - cat
