Hi 3dots

Of late I find myself coming around to a thinking much closer to yours - though I may express it differently sometimes. After the latest bout of nonsense on TGD thread, I'm going to try to stay away - it drives me to distraction. And what I am now much clearer about is that I won't be calling myself or very rarely 'atheist'. It's not about identity, it's about a way of thinking. That is the rational, as opposed to the irrational. Theists like to put us in the negative to their position, as if it's somehow the default. They also like to paint us as if we belong to one great big 'church' like they think of themselves. Because it's a way of thinking rather than an identity, we can come in a variety of colours and shades, and basically celebrate that.

So from now on I'm going to refer to them in the context of debates like the TGD thread and their ilk as 'Irrationalists' Let them be in the negative for a change.

And I'm attempting to do the rational thing at present and stay away from those places. Why would I want to torture myself? I'm not a martyr by nature. Though I seem to succomb to it sometimes. But then we all have our irrational sides, now and then. But it's a question of admitting it.

Oh and yes. No appeasement - ever. Even towards men with beards wearing dresses. smiley - winkeye

Hi Effers,

Only just noticed your post.

Glad to see you are becoming more positive in your beliefs!!!

As I was saying to Richard Dawkins just the other day...I use the positive affirmation of: 'I believe supernatural beings do not exist.' to explain my beliefs.

Crazy that people actually still define themselves in terms of what they do not believe in.

The TGD thread and others tend to come & go with interests etc. I see someone else is spouting the normal Christian dogmatic rubbish.

The only good thing about challenging them is that it defines and broadens one's own understanding of what one believes in. Of course, with your wibbly-wobbly brainy problems that seem to get in the way sometimes I can see why you need to back away from the illogical twists of facts and fiction that 'they' come back with.
