h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

Well, i am back. I recieved my Wings and halo just over a year ago now, but then couldnt get online, as couldnt get to library, and had no digibox. Now I'm back, but i just need a little help... Other than just calling myself a Angel...what do i actually get to do?? And Can someone help me sort it out Its a little difficult for me at the moment, cant see half of what im doing or the start of any threads... Portable tellys eh!
So If ya can tell me what im meant to do, Ta muchly!!

Hi! The basic aim of Guardian angels is to welcome new members to the site and to try and make them feel at home. You can either welcome entierly new users (who haven't been greeted by ACEs) or you can give a second welcome to users who are already part of the site. I find that in general it is sometimes nicer to welcome users who have already had a welcome as it means ACEs are more likely to welcome researchers and it means that researchers instantly feel part of teh community having had two welcomes. You can find a list of new users here: <./>newusers</.>. There is also a slightly old page which gives a lot of information about the angels here A410699. That covers most of the main angel pages and what we are meant to do, though it hasn't been updated in ages!

As to your technical problems I guess the best place to go would be to the <./>gurus</.> page and ask for some help.

Oh, by the way, was just wondering if you coulld tell me the page number for the new user list. Looked on the page itself but couldnt see a number for it, but wanted to keep it written down in me notepad, so as i dont lose it, so i can keep on top of the newer users... If you can then thanks very very very much

I think the Herald went offline dear - I've had a look at the new users' page myself, but can't find any A number for it...

Can you get the who's online pop-up window? If so, then you can always go for those researchers that have (new this week) after their user name...

The <./>newusers</.> hasn't got a number as it's not a static page (like for example also the who's online page). Instead of remebering/bookmarking an A-number, simply remember/bookmark "newusers".

Okay, Maybe I'm a complete donkey but how do i "bookmark" things? Just I've not been on for an age now and forgot what im doing on half of it, and didnt know the other half anyway

You mentioned a 'portable telly' - are you using a PC or a Digibox-similar way to connect?

you can either post to the conversation or at the bottom of every page of the conversation there should be a link reading "click here to subscribe to this conversation" which has teh same effect. If you want to subscribe to a page there should be a similar link near the bottom of the page itself

Well, there are several ways to post links in h2g2 conversations:

1) Type in the entire link (and remember to be considerate and leave out the skin specification):
http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/newusers

2) If it's an h2g2 page with an A or U number, you just post the letter followed by the number, like this:
U135628

3) If it's a named entry, you add a kind of GuideML code - you put
< . / >
without the spaces in front of the name, and
< / . >
without the spaces after the name:
<./>DontPanic-Tour</.>
