Well. Almost.

A) Windows and 'Mac' are on the same machine.
B) It's not strictly speaking /actually/ Mac.
C) It's just a themed extra shell.
D) It looks and acts like a Mac though.
E) It has schweet extras that the normal Windows shell can't handle by itself.

See my Photohost account (look in Aston Screenshots) or check out my blog for screenshots and a more in-depth explanation. smiley - smiley

Hm. The link works for me - the domain might've been down. See if it still doesn't work - or try it later. smiley - smiley
If it doesn't work, try http://82.42.98.165/ and let me know if you get anything from that. smiley - smiley (that's the server it's hosted on)

And yes - it does look very sweet, doesn't it? I've updated it a bit now - I have TrayAmp, which is a little thing that sits next to the system clock (the hh:mm one in the taskbar, not the Binary one, or the Analogue one), and saves me from having to unminimise Winamp every time I want to change the song a few tracks. smiley - smiley Along with that, I have a quick Halt applet which sits near TrayAmp and lets you shutdown or reboot with just one respective left/right mouse click.

And you should hear the sound scheme I created. smiley - biggrin
With help of course from the Linux community - check out http://kdevibes.artemio.net/ - *UNBELIEVABLE* quality system sounds there. They're in OGG format, so if you want Windows to use 'em as System Sounds, you'll have to run 'em through a program to convert them (I used Goldwave to run a batch process. The other basic converters cut off a second or so from the beginning. Goldwave didn't. Goldwave is a light Cool-Edit-type sound suite. Goldwave is brilliant. Download Goldwave. http://www.goldwave.com/smiley - biggrinsmiley - winkeye)

I like my Opera skin too. It fits my sidebar buttons in almost all on one line - the font is miniscule, but not so small I can't read it. And it doesn't scream 'Look at me, look at how clever I am!', which is also good. smiley - smiley

Yep.

Just Google for 'funny pictures' sites.

It'll be there.

Trust me.

So clichéd.

Well here's a smiley - silly question. Why don't you just get a Mac?

aka, you are so incredibly crap at linking to images. Why didn't you just put up the whole address, instead of making people root around in your photohosting? They are less likely to bother!

Hellbound: I can't afford a Mac. I can afford a piece of software that makes my PC look and act like a Mac. smiley - winkeye Unfortunately, it doesn't come with the clause of not being the target of 95% of the World's viruses through not using Windows. But meh - you can't have it all.

Ok, fine. On my blog you can find the images themselves. Or you can trouble yourself with navigating *once* into my Photohost folder. That's why I coded the browsing interface for Photohost. So people could browse it. *rolls eyes*

But anyway.

Minimised to Desktop:
http://82.42.98.165/photo/chris/Aston%20Screenshots/Desktop1.png

Desktop with some windows on it:
http://localhost/photo/chris/Aston%20Screenshots/Desktop2.png

Opera (browser) and other stuff:
http://localhost/photo/chris/Aston%20Screenshots/Opera%20(and%20others).png

Fun with recursion, and Fireworks MX:
http://localhost/photo/chris/Aston%20Screenshots/Recursion.png

And finally, a behind the scenes look at my Photohost account:
http://localhost/photo/chris/Aston%20Screenshots/Voyeuristic%20view%20into%20my%20Photohost%20account.png

And besides, it's nicer to tell people they can find my Aston screenshots on http://chris.photohost.vze.com - than to list all the URLs to images. See? smiley - tongueout

Hellbound - can you get to http://82.42.98.165?

"My Other Computer is a Macintosh"

Post 14

hellboundforjoy

Yes. I get a page that says "Welcome to the Server"
When I click the Photohost link I get a page that says I can log in or sign up.

"My Other Computer is a Macintosh"

Post 15

hellboundforjoy

But fyi, I cannot get into the Photopost links in the previous post.

Researcher 178815

Ah. I know why. I'll try and fix that. I've just found out by the way, the root of a problem that people had been complaining about before. So lots of people should be happy by the time I fix this. smiley - smiley

Try http://www.photohost.vze.com/chris/ instead. (Then try http://www.photohost.vze.com/chris and notice the difference. The slash at the end stops the bug.)

"My Other Computer is a Macintosh"

Post 17

hellboundforjoy

Ah, those bleepin' slashes. That worked.

"My Other Computer is a Macintosh"

Post 18

Researcher 178815

Good. smiley - smiley
But those slashes don't explain why direct links didn't work. Saturnine has used full links on her Blog, and on h2g2 I think, before - and nobody's complained. smiley - erm

Can you do me a favour? Visit Alertra's Spotcheck at http://www.alertra.com and type in 82.42.98.165 for me? Let me know it fails anywhere. smiley - cheers I'd do it myself, but pinging a machine from that same machine is a bit of a pointless process. smiley - smiley

Here ha go:

"Spotcheck

04/29/2004 18:00:16 Las Vegas USA OK 1181 0.63

Complete."

Sorry if you already did this. I just saw your request. I have a pile of backlog I've been going through today and a slow connection.

"My Other Computer is a Macintosh"

Post 20

Researcher 178815

No problem - that helps, cheers!

Because what that means is that whichever corner of the globe you're in, you can get to the server. Which helps, but doesn't explain why you couldn't get those image links. smiley - erm
