Cheeeeeese
Posted May 31, 2001
no, not the type rodents are inordinantly fond of - but rather that which is otherwise refered to as kitsch...
I have a weakness for cheese of all types. the kitschier the better. at one point my prized possesstion was a giant rubber inflatable platypus. at any moment my shelves will be crammed full of locks-with-no-keys, spent rifle cartridges with holes bored in the bottom, coasters (failed cd burns), and other useless parafernalia. the only criteria I have is that these things were meant at one point to serve a purpose but fail miserably, or that they now serve a purpose that is radically different to that which they were intended.
it applies to music too. besides my fondness for punk, grunge, and classical; I also have a taste for pop. and not just any pop, but pop from cultures whos language I don't understand. for example, I'm often found playing songs by a Japanese artist named Noriko Sakai, or Quebec star Mitsou. I'll even throw it into the mix with all the other punk, etc. stuff I have, if only for the discongruity of it all. I find the contrast quite amusing. most people don't share my view on this but I find the look of confusion on their faces as they try to wrap their minds about it all even more amusing.
go figure...

this is journal entry the first. quite a lovely entry really, despite the fact that there is nothing in it of any great importance. rather like a lot of Hollywood types if you think about it.
