Hi Whoami, I'm sure you're really busy with Freshers, but fancy popping up to Birmingham?

No, it's too far isn't it?
Anyway Chiltern railways trains are awfully reliable - so it would be great if you could make the Birmingham meet on the 23rd of October. A3066987

Erm, not sure how possible this is going to be. Seem to be problems booking fares both with Virgin and Chiltern - the cheapest Virgin is unavailable because they aren't reserving seats that weekend and the fare is compulsory reservation on the outward journey. Chiltern aren't running late trains back to London. For bonus points, Megabus don't run an evening service back to London, and the NX bus isn't so hot anyway since the taxi from Victoria [it's a couple of night-bus changes] would cost a bomb.
However, I might go home across the weekend and in that case it will be more possible.
I really want to be there and will find a way!

Whoami it would be great if you could make it,
There's always Sliverlink, they run to Birmingham, we're starting in the pub at about 1.30 pm so if you have to leave at 7ish they'll still be plenty of drinking.
And there's also the nasty virgin trick..
Buy any ticket, as cheap as possible, agree to pick up from the fastticket machine at the station.
This doesn't print the train times on it, it just shows the fare and a code that no one understands.
Then get which ever train you want

Silverlink have had their franchise altered - they now run only as far as Northampton. Chiltern do a £15 ticket off-peak - which is just £9.90 rtn with a railcard. And you don't get tied to a specific train!
Unfortunately, I may not be able to attend since it turns out a friend from Paris is going to be here in London for the weekend - but I might be able to sort something out as he's staying elsewhere and is here for three days...
It's all so complicated all of a sudden!

I didn't know about Silverlink, but I always use Chiltern Now because they're cheaper and more reliable.
*really* hope you can make it..
