So how goes the struggle?
swl Posted May 12, 2007
The step-son's got a "friend" over and it's impossible to get to sleep in the adjacent bedroom with the noise

Hmmmm, sounds like a case for "the green squishies" ...
'Venus' has the neighbor from hell, that we have lovingly dubbed "The Banshee". She seems to collect some poor soul for a few weeks, has the louded 'relations' with him, and then the fights, screaming and flying furniture begins. I sent Venus a good hand-ful of bright-green, disposeable ear-plugs from my work-place, to try to cope a bit.

Something certainly needs to be done.
What do you do with a 21 year old, (22 this month), who has only ever had a 4 month summer job, doesn't apply for benefits and shows absolutely no inclination to get a job? He sleeps all day, plays computer games all night and does nothing around the house.
But, he's the apple of his mum's eye

I honestly have no ideas there. I stepped out at a bit over 17, and married before my 22nd birthday. With a child shortly after that. I worked summers and what-ever from the age of 12. And the area and time that I grew in, there were no benefits. These days, there are but anyone who goes for benefits and are NOT crippled seniors are seen as leeches on society. So not something that happens often in that small town.
How large are your gardens ???

Not like I have read (a few times) the generations of your "heady" article in PR. ... But with some pobvious candidates in mind, do you know of anywhere to secrete excess "apple peels" ?
Really, with the refinements made to keep it all polite, there are a few comma's I'd add, but little else. Well done, mate.

Hey Nick? What's going on with that other thread you just left? I came in and found 11 posts and followed a lighthearted series of posts, then you took umbrage and left
Am I missing something mate, 'cos I didn't see much wrong there. OK, there might be history that I don't know about, but it just looks a bit strange.

Nothing of consequence. If I appear in a thread, whether it be light, discussion or journal, one specific other tends to get very snipey and the whole thing rapidly goes downhill. So I generally leave pretty quickly, rather than 'spoil the fun'.
How's stuff with you these days?

Well I can't say I noticed anything. When people have a go at me, it tends to be a bit more blatant
Things are fine just now. I think the post I just made in that other thread sums up where I am hootoo-wise. S'funny, I had a blow-up with a chap a wee while ago over something & nothing. Now it's blown over, I've watched his argument develop into exactly the point I was making. Someone else who sees what they want to see.
Gonna have to move house soon. The landlord just announced he's moving back to the area and wants his house back. I hate moving. All the packing & palaver. I don't mind the unpacking so much though.

I do recall some of your early days here. One of the reasons I first called in, seeing you take a bit of a drubbing in a thread or three. And I've just seen your post in that other thread as well. So in the end, you found your own version of an evolution. Just don't tell your Bishop about it, eh?
And oh yeah, I know the bother of packing. Once I get started, it's not too bad, but to get that first few boxes begun... Have you any good prospects in the same area that you are now?

Not really started looking yet. We've got a couple of months, so there's no rush.

Around here, it takes a couple of months. One to find something clean and suitable (size and location) as well as affordable. A quick run to the currency exchange table tells me that the last 3-bedroom unit we rented is now about 560-pounds a month.. How does that compare to your region?

£610, so not far off. The problem usually comes when you try to get a deposit back off a landlord. It doesn't matter how immaculate you leave things, they always quibble.
We once rented a house on Arran over the winter. We were very impressed that the landlord repainted before we moved in. But we soon discovered he was hiding the damp. Within 3 months, the mould had grown up the wall to the ceiling. The floors were riddled with rot. Mrs SWL actually put her foot through the floor upstairs, the floorboards were like puff candy. When we left, we scrubbed 'till it gleamed like a new pin but the landlord still tried to get out of repaying the deposit.

There really ARE some sleazy landlords out and about, aren't there? I've been pretty lucky in that reguard ...
If you want a good chuckle, take a peek at my PS for a thread "Homer meets the big guy". Venus has an edited entry about the big guy already (with blob) but it may want an update.

I just noticed a very scarey coincidence, looking at the h2g2 Birthdays page. Are you SURE that we aren't twins?

Well, not too entirely, I suppose. I have an impression that there's also a few years in between. Unless you too saw the last couple of months of the 1950's.

*ahem* Have you noticed that you have a piece on the Front Page for the week-end, ... One which you haven't subscribed to? *nudge-nudge*
