Welcome to h2g2 smiley - smiley
Just thought I'd drop by and make you welcome to the site.
I am an ACE and it is part of our voluntary job to make new members welcome and provide any help if you so require it.

Should you wish to leave a messsage of condolences to Mr. Adam's family and friends at this sad time, could I point you to the relevant area of the Guide: (just click on this link below and it will transport you there directly)
http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A5932

If i can help in any way, don't hesitate to reply to me here or by clicking on my name and leaving a message on my space. Places to start may include the Welcome page:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/Welcome

My advise to you would be to dive in and browse around, and naturally feel free to post to any conversations you like, we are a friendly bunch after all smiley - winkeye

Oh and should you write an article, why not let me know and I'll read it and help you to get it noticed by the relevant people.

Nice meeting you and hope to see you around,

Thank you very much for the welcome, Babel-17!

I visited h2g2 awhile back but it did not dawn on me at the time what it was-- a clone (or rather Earth Edition) of HHGG, built on the same principles as the Galactic Edition. Also, at the time I was using a 56k modem so this site was dreadfully s-l-o-w-w-w (happily remedied by a 2.5 Mb/s cable modem when a new company laid fiber optic cable in our neighborhood).

I live in the SF Bay Area, daily pass by the home of DNA's favorite computers and have a few of them myself. Actually, that's how I stumbled on h2g2-- following some links from DNA's Apple Masters page at [link removed by moderator].

I plan to put up some personal data when I get the chance. Meanwhile, I have enjoyed browsing around and especially noting the Awfully English topics such as the "Sodit...Thing" campaign. There seems to be quite a university contingent aboard here.

I was very sorry to hear about Mr Adams' premature demise. I have been a fan of his work since it first came out in the states many years back, have most of his books and audio and video versions of HHGG and of course SS Titanic. I have been pasting the Black Towel into all my e-mails, though the idea is generally lost over here.

I was over in Old Blighty in 1997, stayed at the Strand Palace Hotel (where Leo Szilard conceived the atom bomb, but there is no commemorative plaque of this event in the lobby for some odd reason). I probably ate at many of the same restaurants in Covent Garden as TDV people and had no Idea about TDV.

Anyhow, thanks for the welcome. I look forward to being a contributing researcher, since my user number is clearly a natural for the Real Researchers group.

Cheers, as you folks say,

You are more than welcome nihil smiley - biggrin
The States is still somewhere I haven't managed to get to, though naturally through here I have many friends over there. perhaps one day. One of my fiends used to work for the big A in ireland, and had met DNA on a number of occassions, through various reasons. he now has his own company and produces tools for said company's machines. It was one of these, developed as shareware, that he met DNA. Unfortunately he was one of the people I have always wanted to meet, but now, cannot.

Certainly h2g2 is now more stable since being bought by the BBC in January. had this happened 6 months ago, we couldn't have coped.

Glad to see you are enjoying it here, and long may it continue. Hopefully we will bump into each other in a few of the more community minded aspects of h2g2, but as I have said before, feel free to drop by any time for a natter, or if you have a query or problem smiley - smiley

Enjoy the weekend,
B-17
