Welcome to the online, Earth Edition of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy! I hope you enjoy your stay!!
This site can seem a bit overwhelming at first - there's simply so much to see and do. Don't feel that you need to do it all at once. Joining h2g2 is a bit like entering a too hot bath, you should get in a little at a time until you're used to it and then you don't ever want to leave!
If you're wondering why I'm here, the simple answer is that I'm one of the ACEs (Assistant Community Editors) who serve as voluntary meeters and greeters on-site.
If you'd like to start contributing entries to this alternative Guide to Life, the Universe and Everything, do check out the writing guidelines at http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A53209 From what I've read in your introduction, it sounds like you've got a few stories that you might like to tell to the further community!
You might experience some slowness to the site at present, that's because of the huge influx of newcomers visiting due to the death of the site's founder, Douglas Adams. If you were/are a fan of his work and would like to leave a message to him and his family, pop over to http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/U42
If you're looking for some good conversations and some other behind-the-scenes information about the site, check out http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/info This page has the conversations most recently updated, the most prolific posters and the total number of entries in the Edited Guide and the total number of Registered Researchers.
Most of all, have fun while you're here. While many people on the site are committed to carrying out Douglas' vision of creating an online version of his Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, others should simply *be* committed.
Anyway, have a great time and welcome again!
If you find that you've got some questions, feel free to ask them in this forum by hitting the reply button, or you can visit me at my Personal Space at http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/U53353
