Ottox Started conversation May 17, 2001
Hi! Read your post in Wittys forum, and thought I would come here to say hello. I'm an Ace and a Guardian Angel, but Trin has already talked to you, and I also see that you've found other conversations yourself, so I won't say much now. Just that you're welcome to ask me if you have any questions about the Guide (or anything else )
I'm afraid I have to go off-line in a moment, though.
See you around the Guide!
Ottox
By the way, Triv isn't quite right about submitting for the Edited Guide. You have to go through Peer Review. Click on the banner at top of the page to read all about it. I'm afraid - but quite sure - that your one-liner won't get through...

hi there, Ottox.
actually I visited your space yesterday (because it was so nice of you to wave to the *old* researcher in reply to her kindness towards the newbies) - seing you had your own fanclub (or even more than one?!?) made me leave without a trace.. it's nice to talk to a guru, though (you were right about the one liner of course - but it sure was worth a try - and counts as learning by doing) .. and as you're offering it: I'm not sure I can find the right thread to answer this one in a reasonable time: I'm planning to have an entry with quotations. I made my mind up already that an entry would be more logical than having them in the introduction for my personal space. (althought I'd REALLY like an edited entry I won't be able to get this one through either, because I'm planning to ad new quotationas as I find them). So the actual question is: is there anything in the h2g2 policy that speaks against that? as far as I know quoting one liners doesn't touch copyright. and: there's a line from a song of Leonard Cohen - do you think it will pass moderation? (yes, I saw A544943)
I'll spare you my questions about anything else for the moment - quite an offer, though..

here comes question two already - is it possible that by unsubscribing from a discussion I delete the entries I made there? seems that this just happened to me.

hi Ottox - me again. Just to tell you that the questions have been resolved in the meantime. The quotations entry is done and my missing conversation-post must have had to do with my linking it directly to the original message that started the thread - this seems to catapult you just into the h2g2 orbit... which makes you a bit dizzy but apart from that is quite ok actually..

Any questions left?
I really like the quotations entry, but it will never go into the edited part of the Guide. That's not a bad thing. It will still show up in the search engine, and it's *much* easier to make updates.
The unedited part of the Guide isn't less important than the edited part, it's just different. What makes this site so special, is the community activity: The discussions about entries and everything else, the 'getting to know each other' on the userpages (including a lot of fan clubs ), and the fun at the virtual pubs, in the quizzes, and in the many weird clubs and societies. And most important - that almost all the researchers are friendly people, who will help you in any way they can!

good morning , Ottox
actually here comes the next newby question: is there any list of names? or is the only way to go and visit other people's personal spaces to have a look at 'who's online' or to follow a link in a discussion or an entry? [I just found 'search for a friend' on the advanced search page - so once I know a name I can find it there ]. Just asking out of curiosity - and because so many of the names are fun to see. However: have a perfectly beautiful day

Why, thank you!
A list with all 81407 names?
Yes... actually there is!
It's mostly for the Aces, but I'll tell you.

But if you're not trying to visit every single researcher, I'd still say the Who's Online list is better, because it shows the *active* people.

hm - any other discoveries you'd like to lead me to?? (because who knows if I'll ever find all the necessary questions - there might be hidden treasures I'll never get to)

Ottox Posted May 19, 2001
Nope! You'll have to ask first!

Oh yes, it exists... It's not like, say, http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/467147 - that one doesn't exist!

hej!! now THIS is nice!
I smile each time I see you posting somewhere I come along. There were some days without a trace of you last week - everything all right?

Ottox Posted Jun 21, 2001
Er... yes... I think so!
I'm just in too many conversations, I'm afraid...
But now I saw you online and thought "hey, let me say 'hej'"

(glad to hear! (why the brackets?))
My only duty is to talk to people I have greeted!
But my manners! *rolls eyes*
