The Flat Earth Society - The Tap Room
Posted Sep 28, 2001
This is a place for fans of Thomas Dolby to hang out and chat. A place where we can discuss ATB (All Things Dolby) and anything else that takes our fancy.
Long, long ago, when I were nobbut a nipper in internet surfing terms (i.e. 1996), I came across the Flat Earth Society website. But this wasn't THE Flat Earth Society, it was A Flat Earth Society, and in this case it was the website for Thomas Dolby, a place where 'stuffy old dreamers cling to outmoded theories about life, the universe and the music of THOMAS DOLBY.'
Apart from the usual pages (bio, discography, photo gallery, etc.) there was The Tap Room, the first chat room of any kind I'd ever seen. I took to visiting the place daily and soon got to know other regular visitors.
Sadly, ISPs came and went, and eventually The Tap Room was no more. Regular contributors moved on to Alloy, the Thomas Dolby mailing list, and we still communicate through the list to this day. But we've always hoped that one day the original Tap Room would open again, but it wasn't to be.
So, we've been waiting for a site where we could hang out in real time, and this looks like it could be the place. I'm just waiting for Robin_xx, Lissu, Crackers, Justsomeguy, and the rest of the guys to turn up ..... hope it won't be too long.
