hi, and thanks for the pint of Large!

I'm assuming you missed a word out of the above, but just in case not, no, I am not the eccentric genius called Robert rankin. I am, however, a big fan smiley - biggrin although my collection of books is somewhat lacking in his entries, I have the core Brentford books but no more.

I have wondered if anyone has turned one of the books into a play yet, I think it would work very well!

"I hear you Robert Rankin, so I thought I drop by with some Large"

Should have read: 'I hear you enjoy Robert Rankin, so I thought I would drop by with some Large. smiley - ale'

By 'core Brentford books' I'm guessing you mean the first 5. I'm eagerly awaiting the 8th! Out in August. And I'll be at the launch party in Brighgton to make sure it's signed by the Sproutmasser himself.

The Antipope has been made into a play. The first of his books to made into play *with* his permision. It was good laugh,, but it wasn't done brilliantly, Robert and I were talking about it in the interval and we were of the opinion it would have been better if he'd been the one to adapt it for the stage amongst other things.
The first play of a Rankin novel was made in Ireland, by a young chap you tried to pass off Armageddon The Musical as his own original idea.

yup, thats the ones, although I still feel the first 3 are a set on their own.
YOu lucky person actually meeting the man! Although I have to say, he is responsible for me watching reality TV, did you see him on 'The Salon' when he went in to get his beard done?
Oh, and am intrigued, what gave away my liking for his books?

No, I didn't see that. My fiancé of the time knew he was on but didn't mention it to me 'til after. Which I guess, with hindsight, summed up her attitude towards our relationship.smiley - erm
Aye, I've met several times now, he's great to talk to and very generous, he even bought me a present when we were in Brentford last year.smiley - nahnah
smiley - winkeye
Being a member of Stealth's hootoo Rankin fan club is abit of a give away y'know.

No-one joined that was interested in making the page work, if members had subscribed to the page and dropped by to talk toot. Hootooers do alot of toot talking, they just don't like to admit most of what they say is toot.

This is very true.

Thing is though, a lot of the clubs are actually role plays, which I for one am only occasionally interested in. I don;t write (I have a dream I could write, but don't we all, I don;t have an original imagination y'see) ad as such I find it hard to maintain any sort of interaction on that basis. SHADOW about keeps me going on that.

I think what I like about RR books, apart from the intelligent daftness that appeals to me, is you never know who is going to be a fan. I've known people from all ages and walks of life you are into it. It doesn't seem to be a clique, or a cult, just a particular outlook on life that egts one. I have never, I don;t think, successfully intorduced someone to his books. All the people I know are like me, they found him themselves (hooray for libraries and skiving off games ata school). He really is one of our literary greats, but somehow I don;t want him to have the full recognition, there's a part of me that jealously guards the joy his books give me. Selfish I know, but there ya go!

I was introduced to the books myself by someone that recognised his books would appeal to my twisted sense of humour. I’ve introduced a few folk to Rankin [literally in a few cases] and got them off that Prat-chett blokes books...
I'm a Sproutlorian, we're certainly wouldn’t say we were cliquey but perhaps a little cult-ish, in everyone’s welcome to come and have a pint, a laugh and get involved in the insanity if they want...
