Interesting.
Over the last week or so we've had a couple of official emails at work about restrictions on parking and access to the main uni building and references to there being significantly heightened security. Whole areas are cordoned off with access strictly via ID.
And today the unsurprising announcement that it is all cos we're hosting the third leaders debate here. And sounds like they're wheeling out all the professors (well, all the ones that we can get away with showing on TV ) to provide commentary. There's a heliclopter up above and lots of uniforms wandering around.
Exciting huh?
I'm just concerned whether or not I remembered my ID so I can go get my sarnie at lunch

Oh what fun this has turned out to be. Yesterday was cringe-worthy, no matter what your politics are, Do keep us posted,
and have a great day (can you plant a hidden mike in the Green Room?)

hmmm, worth a try isn't it?
I wonder when they'll be turning up and if they do a bit of a run through first?

Hmm, I noticed a bunch of familiar buildings on TV this morning and thought. "Thank bod I've left and don't have to put up with that."
That sort of thing is just a pain in the butt in my experience.
We had the Queen visit my college in Oxford when I was a student.
From that I've learned that the security forces care far more about her than our Prime Minister. A similar visit by John Major had almost no security.
But boy, was it a pain to go about your normal business.

I recall HM visiting my place of work. There was a member of staff checking authority to enter the building (ID card or patient appointment card) but once inside there seemed to be minimal security. Probably the end of one's job if anything untoward was spotted though...

Really?
Wow. We had special forces/MI5 or whoever, snipers on the rooftops all around, a special pass to tell these guys who we were. Sniffer dogs through all our rooms. A big spectacular motorcade when she arrived.
Of course they searched our rooms at a different time to what they'd said so my pass was still in it when it got cordoned off so I had no access to my stuff or any way of getting in all day.
It was really very tight security indeed. I'm quite surprised at what you say.
It may depend upon the era though. This was still in the days of regular IRA bombings. Now of course there is different terrorist threat perceived. Maybe yours was in a quieter time?

Well I don't know what went on beforehand (apart from painting of the areas to be visited) or in the background & outside. But yes, probably not a high alert time & not a contentious visit.
I expect the innocuous looking escorts were not all they seemed!

Yes, the general commentary is that everyone who watched it seemed to fall asleep.
You know what they say about the Queen Teasswill, she thinks the world smells of wet paint and freshly cut grass.

'the Queen Teaswill'?
Has there been some major shift political power I hadn't noticed?
