this one doesn't really fit anywhere so I'll bung it here:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/2010/apr/13/joe-hill-sympathy-for-the-devil
interview/overview piece on writer Joe Hill and some of his work.
Which also, for those not in the know, discusses his work and reception in relation to being the son of Stephen King.
Wait a minute. Stephen King. Joe?
Stephen King named his son Joe King?
I always knew that bloke was a bit twisted...

http://www.marisys.com/how-to-forecast-weather_2010-05-26/
weather forecasting the old way.
Although I'm a tad perplexed about some of them.
E.g.
"Turtles often search for higher ground when a large amount of rain is expected. You will often see them in the road during this period"
Personally I think turtles in the road round here would be a sign of either some heretofore unknown local aquarium have lost its stock or a rather unexpected breakdown of the rules of causality and reality.
Which would probably bring all sorts of unexpected weather I guess, so it still kinda works.

cool link Tal

It had to happen, coalition UK govt. launches website where you can make (and support) suggestions for laws to be repealed as part of their big repeal bill. Lots of stuff on drugs and motoring and privacy but burried away is this:
http://yourfreedom.hmg.gov.uk/repealing-unnecessary-laws/laws-of-gravity
"Repeal the law of gravity, it is hindering space travel and hover cars."
I guess someone had to!
p.s. site is VERY slow today, usual govt. underestimating number of users.

video map timeline thingy from 1945 to 1998 showing where and by whom all known nuclear weapon detonations took place.
Starts slow, gets very busy in the late 50s and peaks and troughs through the rest.
A total of 2053 are counted, with USA at 1032 and USSR/Russia at 715.

oh ok, so I'm not on line with the message. But the design is cool
Very 'rebel biker' I think
Especially if you turn the assumption of which is better on its head.

(there's more, and the first post, under the '2009' blog heading on the right hand side)
and original if you haven't seen them. I didn't recognise the name but I have seen the images before.
