I'm not really here

I've come over to your space to apologise, I didn't mean to seem as if I was critisising you for counting the peer review entries in the LS thread. I was annoyed with another researcher who complains about others being driven away, and how they are much more valuable than anyone else cos they are in PR a lot. It seems some people have a hang up about people being constantly in Peer review, and as I dislike PR (although the only two entries I have put there have been picked virtually instantly) I tend to concentrate on the uni.
I was trying to prove that being in PR doesn't show all the evidence. smiley - smiley I think you grasped that anyway, I just wanted to make sure that you knew my post wasn't aimed at you. I shouldn't have used the word counting, but couldn't think af another one.

The other thing I came for is because you said you were interested in ecology and the countryside. Me too, although not so much of the countryside, as I live in a town. My latest project is likely to be on the front page next week (I've been told), and it's about wildlife gardening. I'd love for you to take a look when it is up there. smiley - smiley

And carry on the good work. smiley - smiley

No need to apologise, Mina!
I joined the Lifetime Suspension thread again because I was getting tired of all of this amorphous 'people are leaving' stuff.
Who? People.
How many? Plenty.
Name them. I couldn't do that.... etc. etc.

I'm very conscious of the fact that, if I hadn't been prepared to identify myself in the early part of that thread, the staff would have been left facing even worse excesses of conspiracy theories than can be seen there. Knowing that there was no conspiracy, that my original 'yikes' that set all that off was just the result of some idle browsing late one Thursday night, has made me very sceptical indeed of some of the wilder flights of fancy that have appeared there and elsewhere. (The strangest so far was the thought of Playboy Reporter as a spoilt child/relative/crony of one of the Italics. I find it amusing that posters who can subject every editorial word to the most intense scrutiny never noticed that PR was fairly obviously an American!)

Anyway, having been one of the people who set off that thread in the first place, I look in occasionally and comment.

So don't worry, I think that implying that 'prolific' writers are more important than others is a serious mistake. It was fairly clear that you agreed about that, and were just approaching the point from a slightly different angle.

I'm glad to hear that your Wildlife Gradening project is ready - it's something I am quite interested in, and I had noticed your project page. I'll certainly watch out for it on the Front Page ( and may actually be spurred into finishing off my own project!)

smiley - cheers

I thought all that stuff was weird too, about him being a favoured wonderful person. I ACEd him, and didn't notice anything special. (He did get to edit a post though, which is something no one else has ever been able to do.)

That xxed out post was really weird as well. I saw it before it was yikesed as I'm subscribed to Peta's page and saw Arpeggio's post about the one that scrolled across the page, so of course I followed the link. I took one look, lost interest, and wandered off. Then to find out that looking closely made it into words, made me a bit ashamed that I hadn't inspected it properly myself. But I'm not good at filling in blanks like that. (crosswords go half finished, and that's with clues.)

a Girl Called Ben posted into that thread, and made the same point as us about h2g2 not being only the Edited Guide. She said she was drunk, but she seemed to make the point better than I did, without half the words, and without getting into a bit of showing off at the same time! smiley - smiley It will still be argued with though. And wasn't it odd how the thread was hardly used while Mark and Peta where away, and then built itself up again when they were back...

That is my second project I've finished. I don't even know why I dislike PR really. I think it's because I'm powerless in there. Lack of control over my work. Odd, but that's me. smiley - smiley I'm doing another one, but it involves actually visiting places irl, so I'm writing them one by one under another persona, and when I have them all done I'll change them to my name and hit the uni again.
And that's after the other two projectsI want to do!
I do have one entry I want to do that will have to go through PR as it'll be on it's own, but hey ho, sometimes it has to be done. smiley - smiley

I thought that giving PR a chance to repost an edited version of his original was just the italics trying to get him out of their hair and clear their desks before they went on holiday - but then I think that compulsive tidiness is a fatal mistake.

I saw that post from agcB too. The more xyroth insists on explaining his point, the wider a cross-section of researchers are going to end up feeling slighted, which is hardly a good way to recruit for his cause smiley - winkeye

It's fairly clear that I like Peer Review, but I'm very confident about my writing and am quite prepared to argue my case if I don't agree with a particular criticism. Having been distracted away from my own Uni project for a while, I can see the point of view of someone like Gnomon who prefers to put everything through Peer Review - I think that actually might suit me better in the future. However, I've got to finish my Opera Houses first, but I keep getting these new ideas for one-off entries.

Busy busy busy, indeed!

You're probably right about the italics and PR, unfortunately I expect that will be dragged up when the occasion demands.

I wonder if Xyroth will think I'm a loss if I go? Not that I think that thought would cross anyone's mind to be honest. I think I'm stuck here. What's this stuff here? Superglue? Now I see the problem! No wonder my house is groaning under the weight of crap that I never have time to put away.

Ideas for one off entries do creep in from time to time with me, the trouble is, without a deadline they stay ideas. I think that's the lure of the uni. Deadlines. Extendable or not, there is still the vague idea there. smiley - smiley
