Hi Azara!
You have been scouted as being a superb candidate for the Scout's roster!
I just left a message below your 'Personal Guide To Peer Review' entry and realised that you forgot to to it.
Anyway, I'm sure you'll pass the Scout's Test at http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A582626 with 100 points and more

Hi, Bossel!
Thank you for your kind words. I think I definitely belong in the 'Hard-Boiled Faction' in Peer Review - at the moment, it's the most interesting part of h2g2 as far as I'm concerned.
However, there are two problems with applying to become a Scout:
First, I'm not sure how I will settle down with regard to the time I can spend here. I've just applied to become a University Field Researcher, and I want to sort out that project over the next few weeks.
Secondly, actually picking entries comes under the heading 'Passing Judgement on People' as far as I'm concerned, and once that is involved the activity stops being fun and becomes more serious. At the moment, I can wend my way through Peer Review making as many suggestions as I like, but if I had to start grading entries it would begin to feel like too much responsibility.
So for the moment, I'm not going to apply. Of course I may reconsider sometime in the future. If entries I realy liked kept being overlooked, then that might goad me into applying myself!
Anyway, you'll see plenty more of me around Peer Review. Now I'm off to make sure I've subscribed to all those other half-finished entries!
Thanks again,
Azara

You just scored another 10 , for considering the consequences *before* applying! I've seen applications from people made on their second day as researchers, with a total of *two* conversations
Just for comparison, I was considering my application since December but half of this time went by because I'm a procrastinator
The link above doesn't work any more (I deleted the piece because the more 'English' rather than 'Denglish' version will be featured by The Post today, at http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A584246).
Be seeing you over at the PR

Any further or updated thoughts from your side?
The Scouts-recruiting page is quite empty at the moment. That is, there's rarely any application which is pending acceptance from the Italics. You could perhaps step right in
'Judging people' - I don't see it as that. As a scout you can grant some honours to the work of a researcher who really deserves it
Finally, it's not necessarily a lifetime decision. You can retire if you should discover that it's not your kind of thing (which I wouldn't believe anyway)

Hi, Bossel!
I'd say a lot of places are fairly quiet at the moment - it is high summer for most researchers.
I've just had to extend the deadline for my University Project - it's going to take me quite a bit of time over the next few days.
There's another point to consider, now - because I was involved in the whole controversy over banning Arpeggio, I think it would be a bad idea to apply to become a scout - it might give rise to accusations of favouritism. Opinions got rather polarised on a lot of issues, and I think that just might give people the wrong idea. When I get my Field Researcher's badge, at least it will be clear that I got it on my own merits!
Have you seen my Verdi entry in Peer Review? I'm very proud of that one, because it actually took me a fair while to write, but only a couple of people have commented!
