Not great, better than I deserve.
Mediocredane | Keeper of Opposable Thumbs Started conversation Mar 15, 2002
Actually if it got any better than it is now, I wouldn't know what to do with it.
Hi, Pandora. I hope you don't mind that I started a thread in your house. They are touchy on the quiz thread, or at least enough that I don't want to annoy anyone (too much).
On the other hand, it's not called streaking when you are alone.

Welcome!
Please come right in and make yourself at home!
I was hoping to know you better. I like the way you convey your points. These daze I don't bother arguing on hootoo. I just like to learn, teach & play. As you know, some people take a word and beat it to death! Poor words.
What would you like to talk about?
Did I remember that you said you're a Navy man? My father was in the Navy...I'm the patriotic type. Can't seem to help myself.

Hail fellow, well met!
Since ou are kind enough to ask, a little about me.
The Navy was just a job, not an adventure, joke intended. I worked At HQ in Washington (Department of Redundancy Department)on technical stuff for seven years, after I got out of school. It's a great organization, with the buildup to a 600 ship Navy and all of that stuff it was very interesting.
I've been fooling with computers as tools for 25 years, as a means, not an end.
I live in a town in the middle of the largest county in the Commonwealth of Virginia, which has the lowest population. We have a stop light. Wild turkeys abound like sparrows here. I have five front does which pass through my front yard every morning, and I live in town !
more later, I'm sure MD

Why do YOU get to live in Va. and I have to live here?
Seriously, I wanted to build my cabin in Va. but was talked out of it. I love being in a place where you can go to the Mt.s one day and the Ocean the next! I hiked all over the Mt.s outside of Manasses (sp?) Wild Cat Mt....it was pretty but the feeling of slavery was all around...the stone built fences I would find in the middle of what is now nowhere...I always found that to be so very sad. Even when in the Tropics, I hated the feeling of the slave Courtyards and Auction Houses.
Sounds like you know your way around a computer!
I am soooo 'puterly challanged, it's not funny. Well, I do make myself laugh, usually hesterically...but it's STILL laughter.*wink*
(I refuse to use the winky smilie...it WAS my fav...but then something happened and it now looks like it's been in an industrial accedent!)
Guess what?? There's a stop light in my Village too!!! And now it even had THREE colors!!!!
The paper (our weekly wipe) asked us to send suggestions to improve New London.....I think there are two options: put a sign outside of the Village that reads: New London 5 miles ahead, 50 years back.....OR: hire Stu Cooke to bulldoze the entire square &
start over again! Do you think they might print my ideas?
I'm tired....had company all day & most the evening...I'm turning the ringer off the phone & pulling the covers over my head. We had storms here last night & today...my killer doberman spent the night in bed with me...I don't know how I got any sleep...she had nearly the entire bed & I had about a 4" edge!

Oh, and I didn't answer the question ...What do you want to talk about?....
About anything, ,,,,,,. I'm not much of a muse , unless you count tenor or being very handy. I am <ish grin> totally enthralled by the way you read.

Hi, Cluf. Oh, yes, opposable thumbs are very good, and important. What would happen if Dolphins Evolve Opposable Thumbs? Put that in a google and find out.

Pandora...Born Again Tart Posted Mar 16, 2002
Cloughie...I tried to talk to you on MSN but they booted me off twice so I said it. Get your tail over to your BBQ...it's nearly Spring man!! I miss getting virtually trashed and all the N20 and BHs!!! I even miss that muddy pond. I'll admit it, I even miss your "jokes"!
MD, meet Clougie, he likes to 'relax' too...only he's just a young thing!
...*wonders why MD likes the way I read? ...*
I was asked to join Mensa, you know...but I thought it rather stupid to pay $400 to stand around with a bunch of people trying to impress eachother. You can do the very same thing at a bar, grocery, ice rink, etc.!
Time for me to go listen to another sad tale of why the renters haven't paid up this month or the rest of last month. I just hate when that happens.
Not great, better than I deserve.
Pandora...Born Again Tart Posted Mar 17, 2002
Why thank you. You do have good taste in women, even if I do have to say so myself!
I kept forgetting to tell you how clever 'The Dept. of Redundacy Dept. ' was... You slay me!
If I were you, which I'm not...I wouldn't be too bold about too much in the Pub. I get away with alot...Mark Moxon has a wonderful sense of humor!... I'm pretty sure he's had to explain Pandora more than once. But that's what editors do, right?
You said you like the way I read just when I needed to hear it the most! Thank you.
I'm writting for a living now...we'll see how this new journey goes.
But I did need a nudge right when I met you. (I'd wink here, if I liked the winkie eye)
I do hope dolphins never get thumbs! That would be the third time I've 'had' to change my tatoo...it's not a thing of pleasure for me. Just a bit of physical graffiti.
So you liked my outragous behavior with regard to my melodramatic client hey? The thing about it was...it wasn't impulsive...I'd actually thought it through.
My turn at Scrabble...

Thank you for the advice. Bold statements are not me too much. However, if I think that I can do something by telling the truth, I'll sometimes blat it out. I try to be a bit humourous about it, cause it is funny. The 21 year old take on that subject is sooo me, it's scary.
The dept is old, I guess the guy that told me is retired now. Apropos almost nothing (antici..., I guess), have you ever done rocky horror? It played for 14 years in Georgetown, DC.
The winkeye smiley is lame, agree. I can't say what it reminds me of, but it is not self explanatory. Some smileys are just too busy for the scale. Funny, the frown (cross) is easy to read, which opposes of the statement that it takes (made up numbers) 40 muscles to frown, but ony 12 to flip the bird and smile. You've heard that. Groan should be the grr smiley, it just looks more like a groan to me.
Yuck and groan are all but indistinguishable.
Here I go ROFL again. Heal really tickles me. Kodak moment.
I am now rolling on my third career incarnation. When I die, I guess I'll learn about that, too. err... May I email you at the address I lurked at on another thread (I have it)? There are some things, well, you know, that I don't know whether I want in the g2 for posterity, and maybe you feel the same.
Not great, better than I deserve.

...*in her best 'Curly' voice...* Why soutainly!
I just don't want you to think I'm ignoring you if it takes me a bit to E you back...I have two deadlines right on my tail. Mac ate my paper for a heath anthology that's being published in Canada... so I get to rewrite the entire flipping thing. Isn't that wonderful? Then I also have an Essay due April 1st for a woman's health essay contest. Plus two books in the works. I had three, however, the subject decided that he didn't want to do the book...
Mind telling me what the 'IT' is that's better than you think you deserve?
I'll check my hot-mail addy daily to see if you E.
Later MD ...and thank you for the rose.

All right, tried that e thingey.
You know, what you said about Mensa is an interesting point. I am not a DWMM, or anything like that, not much of a joiner. I have met some Mensas, and it's more like H2G2 than you would think, with real life face to face. They get together to play chess, scrabble, or to discuss a topic. Not quarters, or run a bongathon. They have a national and local newsletters. They never have to feel alone. I'm not kidding about the DWMM.
Come to think of it, I've never heard a Mensa brag about running into a ditch or having to keep one eye closed while driving home, if they remembered driving home. How dull.
I see it as an opportunity to give a positive first impression. What you or I build with it after that is subjective.
There are other organizations like that, formal and informal: Church, Masonry, Elks, Lions, whatchamacallits I don't remember, Ruritans, game clubs, even coffee shops and lounge-in book shops.
A simplification of church which has worked for me is a place where neighbors meet in peace once a week, and try to set aside selfishness, dress up, no weapons allowed.

Oh, I almost forgot!

That wouldn't work for my dog 'Bell' as she's very picky about using the same spot...she's on a 100' cable/pully thingie from the cabin to the woods. She's good about fertlizing the place right at the edge of a 40' cliff. Which was a good thing, until the day her cable snapped & she fell. I heard her whine...but couldn't see her. I was afraid the worst had happened. So I took my gun down the deer trail and was delighted to see that she had gone across the river & up the embankment onto the island. As I wadded toward her...I saw that she had managed to wrap herself around several trees... all of them covered with poison
ivy.
Mac is my computer. iMac OS 8.6Whatever that means.
Well I just checked my hot mail & there was no E from you.

I have belonged to so many organizations I could fill a page. I even had my own charity Org. for several years, which was cool.
I like the 'subject' title!

I'll check again...
And thank you so much for the pretty blue loo brush!!!
I once spent 6 hours writting a story I e'd from that n' hotmail acct. to Scotland...& the fellow never got it...I even gave him all my user name, etc. & he got into my acct. & e'd it to himself & me...the next day when I STILL hadn't received it, I e'd it to myself again...then a hotmail page came up saying: this E-mail has already been sent to this address...do not send it again. Never saw it again. One of those "Oh well" situations.
Sweet dreams!
