Ruppinger ~ zaphodista ~ former keeper of vegan affairs ~ new keeper of rainbows, until the old one shows up again

Hiya Aaron,

I just saw that you serve in the US-Army and I wondered
if you could provide me some information:

My father served in the army too, and was stationned in Germany,
but he had to go to Vietnam (that was about 34 years go)
and was never seen again (at least not where I live). smiley - cry
Now my question:
What address would you recommend, if I'd like to learn
anything about his whereabouts?
(his name is/was David Campbell, born in Atlanta/Georgia
and that's almost everything I know).

smiley - erm I know it's rather late to care, but better late than never, right?

It is never to late to care. . .NEVER. At this moment I can only think of Contacting the Department of the Army's Veterens affairs . .. but anything specific you'll have to give me about 24 hours on. . .OKAY. . .plus it'd help if you knew what he did for the Army as well . . .infantryman. . .artilleryman. . .stuff like that.

Aaron

Hey, that was fast, thanxalot!
Unfortunately I don't know what he did.
The only thing I can come to know, is his
birthdate.

That won't help a whole lot...do you know where he fought or anything like that. . .that might be of some use. . .

Well, he was stationned in Augsburg/Germany, in 1964
and came to Vietnam in 1965 or 1966.
Maybe my grandma knows more.
I'm going to ask her and hope I can give you
some more information tomorrow.
Thanks, again.

Do they have an internet side?
By the way: my grandma didn't know much,
but I found a document of the Guardianship court of Augsburg.
There it says that my father was in the 19th Infantry.

I have to say, that I really appreciate your help!
If you like I'll keep you informed of my progress.
Even if my father couldn't make it back from Vietnam,
maybe I can find his parents or other relatives.

DA does have a website but you have to be on a governmetn computer to get anything useful from it. Best bet. . .anbd it'll be some work is phone lines. Keep me informed I am interested in what you find out. . .also you can check for reunions on the web for that unit and might be able to contact someone.

I mentioned that. . .the DA computers will invariably ask for that. . .but the civilian employees . . .if talked to by a person. . . might be able to do it with name and date of birth.

Unfortunately, we don't have anymore US-Facilities here in Augsburg, since the Cold-War came to an end (which is the positive side) and I don't know any former employees.
That's why I thought the internet could be of some help.
But I'm positive, someday I will learn something about my US-relatives, as I spread my quest in the net.

Yes, maybe a way. I'll have to go to Munich, but somehow I didn't manage to take the time to do so, yet.
(I kind of don't like public authorities)
