Ormskirk, Lancashire
Posted Mar 30, 2001
I have been living in Ormskirk in Lancashire for a couple of years now. It is a unique place inhabited in the main by young people that have a strong scouse accent and old people that have a strong Lancashire accent, a sign of the times I suppose. What is unnerving about this place is the range, or rather polarisation, of retail outlets in the town. We have on the one hand designer clothes shops selling ridiculously priced yellow shirts, fast-food errm huts(?) juxtaposed with a vast array of lampshade vendors and charity shops. It reminds me of a confused newsreader on national live TV, looking scared, trying deserately to find where or what they should be talking about, trying to be, etc.
I will continue when I get the chance
