interesting about the 'periods' (I call full stops so that's a learning curve to start with). My mum used to lecture at secretarial college and she told me that punctuation should be low key, else it gets in the way of reading. Spell checkers always want to add periods in things like (e.g.) but I think they look better like this (eg)
Oh and well done for standing up to the nit pickers, I have been reading some stuff going through PR and it scared the living daylights out of me.

There is however the matter of Scouts.
Nothing makes it to the EG without their recommendation,
and I have had articles that never made it to the EG because
I didn't go along with certain changes.

I admire a man of principle Life is too short to cave in when you feel strongly about something
I have a stubborn streak, it takes a powerful argument to convince me about anything. My weakness is that I think I know everything.

Of course the one person I do cave into on a regular basis is my wife.
I can risk alienating an occasional scout but not her

Hmmm, Yes! I noticed that late last night, but was too tired to write Congratulations. I hope to see it on the FP soon, it will be a very well deserved place for your article. Well done you again
Our Staffordshire article is being honed and polished by Bob, and a few other good souls are helping with the grammar. I have discovered various things about my writing, one is that I seem to have put in Far Too Many Capital Letters. Fascinating experience, I don't know how long it will be before we finalise it sufficiently for the Scouts.

Yay! Its a great photo too, very dramatic. Also, did you know there is a link to your article right from the BBC homepage? Well, on the uk version, under 'Weird and Wonderful' ( and the link to h2g2) is Shagbark. So, how does it feel to be so famous?
So, hickory trees make the news. And not so very long ago I remember asking what they were.
What have you got up your sleeve for us next?

I'm full of admiration for those who can make their PS full of interesting gadgety things, like forms and boxes. My next venture will be trying to write something using GuideML. I'm doing things on a need to know basis, and hope to get my head round it bit by bit.
I had a quick peek at the Little Richard article, but its a bit late here (11.30pm) for me to comment meaningfully, but it looks interesting and I will read it properly in the morning -
It was May 1st today, and we get a Bank Holiday on Monday. Do you get national holidays like this? - an old pagan day for dancing round maypoles - I suspect the US ones are more civic?

In the US we have no official Holidays between Easter and Memorial Day
(The last Monday in May) We do however celebrate the second Sunday in May as Mothers Day and the second Sunday in June as Fathers day
