I've decided to sketch more. I've been having great fun reconstructing ancient giraffes and their relatives, but I decided I should do some more 'traditional' topics also. Well I've decided to do a self-portrait! Haven't done one in ages. I asked my mom to take a photo of me, with a cap on my head, put it on the computer, and quickly sketched myself while listening to Colplay and the Cranberries. I think it didn't come out too badly!:

I'm going to see about more portrait and figure studies, and other artistic stuff. Small paintings, too. I find that for motivation it helps me to have a great diversity of different things I'm working on.

That's just amazing.
You are every bit as interesting to look at as a giraffoid, Willem.
I know what you mean about changing subjects. Great idea.

Enjoyed your self portrait, Willem. I doubt you would be of interest to female giraffoids though. Hats are not as interesting to them as ossicones I´ll bet.

That's brilliant. How about one of your Mom, perhaps from an earlier photo as you say she has lost a lot of weight. I have seen the painting of your Dad (sorry I can't remember if you painted it or if your Dad did a self portrait!) It would be nice to put a face to her

Hi there folks! Thanks for your comments.
Dmitri, I certainly will not stop doing giraffes and giraffoids ... I have to finish the 'series' after all! But I'll do these other things in between as well. I'm also currently working on some more 'big' paintings ... I always will (well I hope!).
Websailor, yes I will draw a portrait of my mother as well. She's not lost so much weight as to make much of a difference to her face, she still looks like herself. But if you want to know what she looks like, here are three recent photos of her (and my dad and me too):
