h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

Hi again folks! This weekend the South African Watercolours Society is holding the judging of paintings to be accepted for its yearly exhibition. I've sent in three paintings: a baobab tree in somewhat 'psychedelic' colours; a painting of my father; and a still-life in rather unusual blue and purple colours so it looks like an undersea-scene. My father has also sent in three: two still lifes, one with flowers, one with bottles and apples and a gem squash, and also a bushveld sunset landscape.

Paintings that are approved at the judging, will go off to the exhibition. They will be for sale and at such an exhibition one can get good prices for paintings.

Also, one can increase one's status at the society by getting paintings approved. This allows one access to 'bigger and better' exhibitions, better prices, and a chance at lasting fame and fortune mwah ha ha!

So please wish us luck!!

and all fingers crossed. I don't think there is any doubt yours and your Dad's will get through, though of course with all things, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and some people wouldn't know a good painting if it smacked them in the face

What passes for *art* in some quarters is pathetic.

Hello Everybody and thanks for your comments! My dad just finished talking to our art teacher Kathryn on the phone. ALL OUR PAINTINGS WERE ACCEPTED!! That is to say, my three and my dad's three as well!! This means I am now on the first rung of the ladder status-wise, I am a 'New Signature' at the Watercolour Society. (I've already had paintings approved for previous exhibitions ... I think one needs a minimum of four to be a New Signature). At any rate we'll receive our paintings back sometime soon and will then send them in for the main exhibition.

The painting of my father is the one in my webshots paintings album. The other two aren't on there yet ... when I get them back I'll take photographs and upload them.

AR81, my dad's in good shape at the moment apart from a very painful foot! He's developing gout-like symptoms apparently because of the breakdown of proteins (hopefully including the tumours!) caused by the chemotherapy. But he was at the doctors earlier today for medicine for that and is now watching rugby with my mom and he looks comfortable enough.

Hi again folks! Our art class sent in a total of 39 paintings ... of which 35 were accepted!!! I think that's incredible and shows what a fine teacher Kathryn is, as well as how we work together and help each other out with encouragement, criticism, suggestions etc.

The main exhibition will start this coming Tuesday. The paintings will be for sale there.

Hey JEllen how are you doing with your own art these days?

I wasn't able to paint for a few weeks, because I had a bad cough. Now I'm better though, and planning on going to a painting party later this month.
