Music At Last!

I've been (legally - at a pay-per-song site) downloading songs from the 'net for a while now. But I've been quite frustrated about it. It's true, I got some really cool songs - I'm specifically going after old eighties music, stuff that I'm nostalgic about, lots of stuff not available in shops or that for some reason I had failed to get myself back then. I play many of them right on my computer but I also put some on CD's. And that's the problem: these CD's don't work in the main big hi-fi in the living room. I can listen to them on the small CD player in my 'art room' - but it's not the same! The main hi-fi has great sound and I can play stuff really loud - of which I have a need every once in a while.
I'd been using some old writable and re-writable CD's my dad had bought a while back and had said I could use. Of those actually *one* for some mysterious reason *was* playable on the main hi-fi - but the others not!
Well I was sad that only the one CD worked especially as I got more cool songs and more wished I could listen to them out loud.
At any rate I have been using the little CD player to good effect and enjoyed painting while listening. I eventually filled up all our old blank writable CDs and then a while back went to the shop and bought me some new ones.
And when I got back and put some songs on and tried them on the big hi-fi ... they all worked!!!
So now I can listen to my music out loud!!! Yay!!!
I wonder if it was the case that the 'old' writable and re-writable CDs were simply a bit inferior to the ones they're making now?
Anyways I made myself a nice CD for loud listening ... here are the songs I put on it (Song - Band):
1. Nemo - Nightwish.
2. Analogue - A-Ha.
3. Doctor Doctor - Thompson Twins.
4. Call Me when you're Sober - Evanescence.
5. World Start Turning - Rick Springfield.
6. Orange Crush - R.E.M.
7. Compulsion - Martin Gore.
8. What I've Done - Linkin Park.
9. Lately - INXS.
10. Empress - Gamma Ray.
11. Bring Me to Life (Demo version) - Evanescence
12. Just Like Heaven - The Cure.
13. Linger - The Cranberries.
14. Roam - The B52's.
15. Little Bird - Annie Lennox.
16. Armed and Dangerous - Anthrax.
17. Catch You - Sophie Ellis Bextor.
18. Sweet Sacrifice - Evanescence.
Well that's an eclectic mix of old and new songs and you might find my taste a bit weird! But for me at least those are all songs I like to listen loud. Anyways I'd like to hear from folks here with a music taste similar to mine. Anyone who likes some of those songs and don't know some of the others, give them (i.e. the others) a listen - you might like them! I'd also welcome suggestions of music I might like. I'm going after music with a vengeance now. I'm especially after the 'good stuff' from the eighties but earlier and later than that's also OK.
I'm also after good contemporary music. Very little of what I hear played on the radio or TV appeals to me. But there are some new groups I like. One of them is the band Coldplay. I've put their albums 'A Rush of Blood to the Head', 'X & Y', and 'Viva la Vida' on CD as well.

I would have been very surprised if you knew any of those songs AR80! In fact I don't know how many other folks here would know them. I think JEllen might know some, and Skankyrich too, and Terri perhaps. I feel like an old f*rt* myself since my music taste is mostly about 20 years behind the times!
Interestingly, my dad likes Coldplay! And also some other contemporary pop and rock music. This is impressive for someone his age! But he liked the Beatles back in the day ...
