I finally got to see that film!
It was quite nice and lovely to hear people say "Tal" and "Taliesin" in strange Welsh accents the whole time, he was very sweet and there was lovely music, but to my horror the whole film seemed to be advocating some sort of mindless belief in a higher power! So you would probably hate it. Other than that fundamental flaw, it was quite nice. Tal did have a crisis of faith near the end which was very enjoyable, particularly when he yelled "There is no god!" in a special Welsh cave, I would have preferred it if the film had ended there. Unfortunately it didn't but I still found it worth watching.

Since the mythical Taliesin was a magician shapeshifter, in addition to being a bard it's unlikely he was Christian.
There is some suggestion the myth of Taliesin arose from tales about one of the pagan gods, most likely the Sun god him/her/itself
Just as pagan celebrations such as Yule-tide (wheel-time) and the Vernal equinox (celebration of the goddess Oestre) were stolen by the Christians, so the mythic character of Taliesin was transformed according to the beliefs and prejudices of later chroniclers.
The name, 'Taliesin', means 'radiant brow', suggesting one who uses his/her intellect. For this reason I prefer to think of the mythical Taliesin as a symbol, not an actual historical character, but of any intelligent, rational, sceptical being.
Still, I'll watch the movie if I get a chance, and now you have alerted me, will try to not get too annoyed with the heavy-handed Christian-ness. If I rent the DVD, maybe I'll just stop it immediately after the 'There is no god!' scene

Yes, I advise ending the film at the cave point if you're finding it difficult. The Taliesin in the film seemed quite intelligent, other than this bizarre insistence on having something to believe in. But I liked it.
