Oh great ACE three weeks ago you stopped by to say that my Lansing MI USA article had been recommended. Am I the only researcher who wonders how long these articles sit there before they stop being recommended and become pending? In other words are there deadlines for the editing process? And what page do I use to check on progress?

~shrug~ Hey, all I do is recommend
I think it good article, so I push button.
After that, the article vanishes into the Great Void of the Sub-Editors.
I have also wondered what happens, and how long it takes, etc.
Since you asked so nicely, I will try to find out for you, but as I am only a lowly ACE/Scout, I have very little clout, (hey, that rhymes!)

If you are in a ~real~ hurry, you could try posting at the Sub-editor's page, http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/SubEditors
I am going to ask my fellow Scouts, via the Scout forum, and it may take a while before I get a reply.
I could not find any pages explaining the details of the procedure, only that a recommended article is handed to a sub-editor, and since they are all volunteers too, I would imagine the process will depend somewhat on the amount of time the individual has to devote to the task.
Hang in there, my friend

Yes, it does take its time. Perfect Guide entries are waiting on PR because there are only 25 picks a week which matches the 5 entries per day on the front page. Having more picks would only put the waiting queue *behind* the recommendation click.
After recommendation, the entry goes out to a SubEd, who usually gets a batch of four entries and four weeks' time to finish. You can check this by doing a search for the title of your entry because under the new system the SubEd receives a *copy* of the entry, while you retain the original.
SubEds are also volunteers and have a real life, so sometimes there may be additional delays. I'm not sure about the following bit: up until recently, the batch was to be sent back in *1* go, so if one of the four entries required significant work from the SubEd then the rest of the batch would suffer from the same delay. I'm not sure if this batch processing is still the case.
When the entry has been sent back (or, under the new system, the SubEd hands back the editing rights), it's being given another touch/check by the in-house staff, which may take another week. That being finished, the entry receives the 'pending' state and appears back on your Personal space. 'Pending' means that it has joined a waiting queue which is about 80-90 entries (that is, 3-4 weeks) long. My impression is that the pending queue isn't a real qeue because some entries appear to have been bypassing part of it - but that's just my impression.
Adding the pieces, you're somewhere around 4 + 1 + 4 = 9 weeks which you'll have to wait from the day of recommendation.
Hope that helps, and that I've got the facts right

the nice thing about food on h2g2. You can take all you want and it won't go to your waist. So to honor all the nice folks who responded to my post here are some hickory flavoured burgers.

unfortunately there's no smiley for a wheat beer stout (Weizenbock), otherwise I would be able to convert you!

Weibock?
Mm, sounds good. I am partial to a local brew called, 'Nature Land', (yes, I know it sounds ridiculous) Also OK Springs Pale Ale...
I tend to like the ales rather than the beers. I don't know why.

Just thought I'd butt in and say that how long an entry takes to be edited depends on how long and how interesting or well-written it is
