Ferrets have DNA too!
zendevil Started conversation Nov 8, 2002
Bonjour, Catwoman, what a great page -- it has thoroughly distracted me for at least a couple of hours, what's that phenomenon? I dimly remember I started with something relatively sensible like seeing how I should do my Book Review, somehow ended up in a conversation between you & Pinwheel & the rest as they say is some sort of phnomena best replaced by something much shorter but not discovered yet by a newbie whose mind is still reeling.
(Proof: I'm making typo's & spelling mistakes & I Never do that!)
Anyway, I'm delighted to see there is someone out there who is at least as odd as me. Feel free to over-estimate my oddness as much as you like -- you ain't seen nuffin yet!
My feline friend (familiar, muse etc.) Yoda is EXTREMELY interested in getting involved with The Cathouse -- she's posted a couple of messages already (to Kimoto Kat in Denmark & Cleo via Sergeant Mushroom) & is trying to get me to transfer the Journal space into her Personal Website. Seems harmless enough to me, but she is developing distinct skills on the keyboard, which is somewhat worrying.
By the way, there is DEFINITELY a gerbil out there (NAME:Smokey. c/o Human "Conceited Little Megapuppy") -- wonder what other pets h2oors have? I really DID have a ferret, name of Felix, now sadly deceased but lives in my memory bank along with lots of other worthy beasts.
O.K; enough wittering for now by me!
A bientôt,Terri (Yoda off-line temporarily; tracking down small furry sub-species to torture)

Oh no, I always forget that there's no such thing as a private conversation here. What were Pearl and I talking about?

Ermmm. Can't remember, so it can't have been anything outrageous!
Anyway, I then got side-tracked into something between Pearl & Miss Quixote, the Ben (something-- is this a girl's name/glad to be home?) & I've lost track of what that was about as well!
I keep trying to scribble down notes about conversations, but it's all a bit confusing. When you go into a conversation chain & send a reply to the last person writing something within that conversation, does the reply get to THAT person or go to the one who started the original conversation? What happens if the conversation is still going on while you're typing your message, trying to butt-in? Does all this eavesdropping make me a "lurker"???
Where do the cats fit into all this, Yoda wants to know, she's sitting here most patiently by the side of "The Beast" (my pet name for the computer)
Sorry for the long message, still a newbie really, hence all the daft questions! (and lack of Smileys etc... I'll get around to that soon!)
Terri.

Don't worry too much about the smileys, they're not necessary, and can be overused but it's fun, especially if you just make them up as you go along to see if they work or not. Usually not.
When you post to a conversation everyone who's subscribed to it finds out. If you post then you automatically get subscribed to the conversation, or there's usually a button around saying 'subscribe to this conversation' which means that it appears on the 'my conversations' bit of your page.
Lurking is basically reading conversations and not posting, but it's not necessarily a bad thing.
What skin are you in? Do you know? (if not, just describe what your screen looks like at the moment, colour scheme etc)
Cats are very important in all of this, but I'm sure Yoda doesn't need to be told that. She might be interested in A359967 (just click on it)

Hello, woman!
As you can see, I've finally found out how to use them, thanks for the advice & you're quite right about over-use, but I'll probably do it till the novelty wears off!
Thanks also for the words of wisdom re: using the Conversations bit; I'm probably still a bit of a lurker at this stage, a mixture of natural curiosity & trying to find out how it all fits together. Glad it isn't a cardinal sin anyway, & I'm sure that most people, if they happened upon a conversation that had got a bit heavy or personal, would get out of it again -- all down to the self-moderating thing really I suppose.
Just joined the United Friends, I see you & Pinwheel Pearl are both in this too, also several others I've been in contact with great stuff! & help the universe keep turning!
Yoda loved the joke; a good place to go to if you need cheering up!
I've been busy today -- started a "Brummies and Black Country club"
BBC(c) provisional title, please pass the word on to anyone who might be interested (the remotest of connections will get you in!!)
Also on a more serious note, posted a question on the Ask h2g2 site regarding Bill Gates, which I'm hoping may provide some food for thought -- please feel free to spread the word on this one too; a one line answer is enough.
Right, been ,toodle-pip, Terri & Yoda.

Am I a united friend? I couldn't see myslef (brain? nope, not me, I don't remember anything)
Ask h2g2 is fun, sometimes you get really long conversations going on, sometimes not. Don't ever subscribe to it though. (message jam alert!)

HELP!! I made the mistake you have just warned me about, & now have to plough through acres of general questions before I can get anywhere! Unsubscribing one-by-one takes forever,am I doomed to be in this for the rest of my life?? I only wanted to be told when my own postings showed any signs of life!
Trying hard to stay & about all this, any advice gladly recieved!
Terri & Yoda.

Um, you frist want to go to the page and say 'stop notifying me of convs about this entry'. Then you have to unsubscribe from all the ones you've already got, one by one.
If you've posted something you're subscribed to it anyway, so you don't need to fiddle with things like that.
Good luck!

Oh well, I'll continue the clearing out process then! At least it means you might pick up on something interesting that you might not have found out about otherwise!

Yeah, I tend to wander around aimlessly if I have spare time and not enough stuff to reply to.
