Hello, no, I do not write lyrics. The "Lyric Soprano" in my nickname refers to the classical music classification for one of the female voice types in singing for secular (opera is an example) and sacred ( music written for the church). The "lyric soprano" (which is the classification of my voice) is defined loosely as a beautiful lyrical voice, strong but light, not heavy at all. Right now I am working on a bouncy little Mozart Allellulia, and a beautiful and sad Puccini aria, one of his most popular. Both pieces are a lot of fun! So, no, with all the time I spend singing, and having a job and and a life, and things, I haven't any spare time in which to write lyrics...

Thanks for letting me know about the Iris Cafe, I'll have to poke my head in and have a look around!smiley - smiley

I'm glad to have enlightened you to something new in the world of music! I actually have had voice lessons (for YEARS off and on) but no other musical training. I constantly wish someone had sat me down and made me learn the piano. It would have helped in some of the more difficult classical pieces I've been working on lately. Thank you for telling me about the H2G2 Choral Society! I went round to have a look and it does seem to be just the sort of society of which I would like to be a part! have put in a request to join the choir and hope to be raising my voice in song there along with the others very soon! What sort of music are you interested in/do you perform?

The music I listen to ranges from the BEATLES and Billie Holiday to Carole King and Neil Young and Mozart and Vivaldi. I like a lot of music. My mother teaches piano.... smiley - winkeye

The music I am interested in playing is along the lines of Handel, Mozart, Vivaldi, Chopin, Beethoven, Bach, and the like... as long as we're talking about the piano or the oboe(which I rarely get around to playing).

But my favorite pieces on the guitar are classic rock, like the EAGLES and the BEATLES. I write music on the guitar too(but not recently), which seems to be much inspired by Joni Mitchell, Carole King, and those BEATLES again... smiley - winkeye

THE BEATLES!!! smiley - smiley Most of my life has been spent in adoration of The Beatles!! I have made return trips from Texas to Liverpool TWICE to hang out at The Cavern and at The Beatles Story museum. I don't think there was ever a time in my life when I could not confidently hum the tune to at least one Fab Four tune. My parents were both great fans, and played Beatles music for us all the time while we were growing up. I have yet to sing a Beatles song in my voice lessons, but one day I'll find an arrangement that will work... smiley - smiley

I think that perhaps when I do sing a Beatles tune in the context of my voice lessons and recitals and such the one I would choose just might be "The Long and Winding Road" I think that could make a beautiful high voice piece...What do you think?

Up until recently, the majority of my repertoire has been from the musical theatre genre (largely works by Rogers & Hammerstein, Lerner & Lowe, and the workds of Andrew Lloyd Webber). I've sung just about everything in the soprano range written by the above listed composer/lyrics teams, so you might have heard of a song or two that I have sung there. I moved into opera with George and Ira Gershwin's "Summertime" from "Porgy and Bess" and my current projects are Mozart's Allelulia from the "Exultalte Jubilate," Puccini's "O Mio Babbino Caro" from his opera "Gianni Schicchi," a pretty little pop ballad recorded a few years ago by Sarah Brightman, called "No One Like You," a beautiful old song by Ralph Vaughan Williams & R.L.Stevenson called "Whither must I wander?" and from Rogers & Hammerstein's "Cinderella" a fun little piece called "In My Own Little Corner." Unfortunately my voice instructor is missing in action at the moment (summer holiday I believe) so I'm left to work on all my music on my own for a while. So, to answer your question, it's possible that you may be familiar with some of the music I have sung. It depends on what music you listen to. smiley - smiley

OH REALLY!??/ That's a bit scary...

I ADORE Rogers and Hammerstein, and I do know some Gershwin-- especially Billie Holiday's singing and Janis Joplin's version of "Summertime". I'll be taking Jazz Styles: America's Music this fall at school, so I will learn more!!! YAY!!! I loooove Music!!! smiley - musicalnote

I know little Webber, but enough to know it is beautiful...

Lerner and Lowe I know because... well, Mom brought me up on Musicals-- my favorites are The King and I, Singing in the Rain, Brigadoon, Oklahoma, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Kiss Me Kate... I'm not sure what team wrote songs for what musial... smiley - winkeye
