More ideas

More ideas to throw around:
1. Cicero - Recently, the guy has been the bane of my existence, but the old windbag has influenced so many people, far and wide, for so long, that I suppose he deserves an entry.
2. Dr Pepper - The Real American Beverage. I go to school in Texas, the birthplace of Dr Pepper. I spent a semester in Europe, where there are only, perhaps, 2 countries in which you can find Dr Pepper without paying $5 per can in a specialty store. What is it about this wonderful stuff that appeals only to Americans?
3. It's the magic number
4. Time - it's so fascinating. And it may not even exist.
5. Philosophy - I know there's some work being done in the h2g2 university...

Thoughts on beginning
Posted Jan 8, 2001
This is my first day here and I've been taking a look around. Overall, I'm pretty impressed. I have been coming up with topics which need to be addressed for the guide, or, in the case of those already begun, need to be finished.
I'd like to write an entry about crossing the street, an issue which, I know, is very important in many people's daily lives. You just can't survive in this Galaxy without learning this skill. It's been true throughout the ages, since man began to build streets. Those notoriously practical road-builders, the Ancient Romans addressed the issue by placing stepping-stones at specific intervals, we moderns have come up with cross-walks and stop-lights. It's also a problem that becomes geographically specific. The knowledge and method needed to cross the street in Smalltown, USA will not help you in Rome, Italy. And, once you've learned to cross an Italian street, you're liable to get killed in Dallas, Texas...
I also think the article on SPAM (the "food" product) ought to be expanded, to include not only its history but its practical applications (apparently you can polish your furniture and your shoes with the stuff...)
And, lastly, I think that this site may not be so great for my GPA...

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
