I'm Rhys and am just stopping by to welcome you to the great Internet community that is h2g2!

Sometimes people need a little help when they are starting off, which is understandable . So if you decide that you need any assistance, you can either ask myself, or an ACE (Assistant Community Editor); both of which would be more than happy to help you out.

On another note; I think the idea of smoking pipes chatting and generally becoming very, very wise is an excellent idea. Care if I join you? I'm not too sure about the smoking though - I don;t I;m afraid. Neverthelsss, the chatting is fine with me. How about something else to go with it? to celebrate your new membership with us!

Thanks for the warm welcome. Nobody ever needs to do anything in my space, so you may or may not smoke while seated. Mind if I do?
For now I have only one question: I tried to find a friend of mine, the computer told me though, there is nobody wit his name. Does he have to be online to be contacted? Is there any way for me to peek in his space? (Or anybodys, fo that matter?)

First of all, do you know what name he is using?
Also, do you know whether he joined within the last week?

If you do know what name he is using then you could benefit from running a search in the h2g2 search engine for whatever his internet/real name is. Also, if that produces no good results you could try out http://www.h2g2.com/newusers and search for his name if he has signed on in the last week.

You can see members who are on-line by clicking on the WHO'S ON-LINE? button. But if he is not on-line such a list shall not help you.

I recommend trying to type in his name into the search engine along with some keywords that he may have put into his Personal Space. For instance, if he has a hobby based on, say CARS then type in "cars" in addition to his name and so forth.

If none of the above helps you out then just give me a bell and I shall seek some additional help from an ACE.

PS - Do you know the friend personally? Do you have his email address? If so, you could ask him personally what his ID is and what his personal space address is.

thanks for the advice, I've been trying his usual internet name in different variations, no results. I suppose I'll just write a mail, that gives away the surprise though...

Oh well, whatever, it's better if I don't surprise him, than not communicating at all, isn't it?

Yes; I suppose so. If you really are sure that you can;t find him then I suppose you shall just have to mail him. But if he is new to the h2g2 site then perhaps you could find him on that? It displays users new to within 6 or 7 days I believe.
