Hello and welcome to H2G2.
My name is Crystal Butterfly and I am an Assistant Community Editor {ACE} one of a group of volunteers to like to meet and greet and hopefully befriend new researchers.
This is an awesome site, and it does take a little getting used to at first.
If you require any help or assistance, please just click the reply button and I'll be back to help!
Have fun hitchhiking around!

Hello there!

Hi Crystal!
I spend all weekend wondering what I could write about and discussing the subject with a former college mate who came over to see me - I attended Falmouth College of Arts.
I have something cooking, but I am not sure what kind of stuff is ok or not. I see entries about baroque music on the one hand and articles about various lovemaking techniques on the other...I haven't read anything yet, I have just registered and my internet access is at work which means that I can't really spend loads of time reading stuff and generally faffing about [though my collegues seem to have mastered that art].
Anyway I came up with a subject: I thought I could meditate on differences between virtual texts [like this site, anything stored on a computer and no where else] and physical texts [paper archives, mycrofilm, books etc] on a cultural level mainly and 'our' relationship to these very different yet similar mediums.
I am no Freud but, these days I have been very interested in the psychological relationship people have with text and books and how this relationship is disrupted [?] changed [?] enriched [?] by the importance computers and the internet has taken and is taking in western culture and society.
Sadly this is the kind of stuff I think about pretty intensely, maybe I need to get a life, but the hhgg will give me an opportunity to research the subject and discuss my opinions and sources with others.
Another thing is that this environment means that I don't have to write something terribly academic like I did in College so, hopefully it will be fun to read and people will not take drastic action to distract themselves from the bordom. [throwing themselves out of windows, taking up karaoke, collecting furbies, reading the phone book...]
Do you have any advice or writing guidances to provide? Do you happen to have a PhD in Psychology??
Any help and ideas are welcome! Take Care
xo
